New Lions WR Golden Tate says the Seahawks' offer to re-sign him was "laughable."
Tate says the Seahawks weren't willing to make more than a take-it-or-leave-it offer, and that he'll make more in Detroit this season than he would have the next two years in Seattle. Tate had claimed he was open to giving the Seahawks a hometown discount, but the sides were clearly never on the same page.

I think he'll be great for us, but the Seahawks certainly thought he could be replaced.

The Seahawks are playing with house money. They won their title and now from here on out will be a plus. They'll just draft a WR..

we paid him double what the seahawks thought he was worth. I thought you guys were against overpaying for vets? Or is that just what you say when I want someone?

But we didn't overpay for him. Try not to make it all about you for a second, ok? The Seahawks have bigger fish to fry coming up. Players like Wilson and Sherman are going to break the bank...

Tate was a sweet deal.

How high do you think he is going to go now?!? Some people have him as high as the 2nd, but most mocks I have seen have him going in the 3rd or 4th..... I'd love to have this kid, our receiving corps would be formidable and have decent depth.

If we picked him in the 2nd itd be great value....hes exactly what I wanted in a WR going into this offseason. Buuuut we just signed a short, slower guy to play WR so unless we do something soon in FA on the defensive side of the ball were going to be looking at a lot of defensive holes to fill come draft time. Too many needs and not enough picks right now. If we don't sign a DE or S prior to the draft I see some mix of those 2 positions being our first 2 picks....the need is that great.

Seahawks lost half their team in FA already....they had plenty of space to sign Tate if they wanted him. Browner, Bryant, Clemons, Giocomini, Mcdonald, Thurmond, Tate....all gone. You don't low ball a player THAT much unless you have no interest in signing him.

"I don?t believe they think there is a safety worth taking here. And yet, having filled most of their pressing needs, almost every position is in play here now. The team talked up their young corners at the combine to the point where I don?t think they will take one here."

At least one expert that doesn't think this team is DESPERATE for starters and having as many holes as you say and think. I think this guy is an idiot for thinking we will draft Lewan, but you are freaking out and saying we have no starters when I don't think that is how the FO is looking at it.

im not saying we have no starters. But we definitely need a DE if were not ok with Devin Taylor starting. We definitely need a safety if we don't want Carey starting. We could use an upgrade at RT and OLB (Waddle and Palmer). Ive said all along we shouldn't draft a corner unless its gilbert. Gilbert at 10 is great value and he has the potential to be our only great corner....we have a stable of mediocre corners when added all together equals the suck we watched last year. I also agree that 10 is a little high to target either safety. The positive is HHCD can cover the newer hybrid TE that the NFL is going to...but that's not really a good reason to draft him at 10. Would be a need pick at 10...not the best value. WR could still be a need...not sure how they view that position after the Tate signing.

Well put. Can't believe people are whinning about this signing, when the biggest problem with the Lions offense last year was the the practice squad receivers that started opposite of cj.

The #1 thing we all bitch about with our WRs are drops. Tate has glue on his gloves. I'm more excited now than I was when we signed him. Looking forward to it.

He had a great year in a run first offense. Put up decent numbers as the #1 going against the best corners. Now he will be #2 to CJ. Great hands and good as a blocker.

Wearing #15 if anyone wants to buy a jersey...paying homage to kearse and baldwin who both wore 15 in seattle.

If I were Seattle I wouldn't pay him (or most receivers) shit either. They don't throw the ball much at all. They were pretty much last in the league in passing attempts. Why spend it on a receiver? I can draft another one in a later round and probably get similar production for cheap.

I can say the same for our slot/"#2" Wrs.

They obviously didn't want to sign him. So what? Their loss, our gain...pretty simple.

Just on the NFLN now....expect a 1,000+ yard season from Tate being next to Calvin. They loved the signing.
