Good thing Leyland does the opposite of whats recommended here

"Playing Raburn for 3 months, Leyland knowing what he was doing and now 4 wins from winning the world series" -- Tom Dalton

It sure was a good thing that Leyland played Boesch for 5 months, because look where they are now!

Yep, its a good thing that the White Sox completely tanked the last 2 weeks of the season, losing to teams that they beat all year before that. That was a brilliant strategy by Leyland.

OR maybe he could've gotten a clue about Boesch, Raburn, and co a little earlier. It took Leyland 160 games to finally decide on a line-up. Many of his adjustments were things that us dopes were calling for all season long. Yet, we're dumb and Leyland is brilliant.

Sorry, I don't really give managers credit for having a clubhouse that loves each other and is a big group of buddies. I really have no idea how much a manager has to do with that or is it that DD brought in guys that he thought would get along well and gel together?

I still think that there were no better options at the 5. You say Dirks but he was better suited for #2 (where he had the majority of his ABs).

Dirks has not hit second since Boesch got benched. Berry was 2nd against RHP, and Infante against LHP.

Again, you say we had nobody better, but that's not the case. As usual.

I was going to say that about Berry and Infante, as well. Seemed to me that after 160 games, Leyland finally decided to have Berry at the 2nd position regularly.

Isn't it common knowledge Leyland doesn't like back to back LH bats so that's why DY is 5 and Dirks is not?

Yes, I mentioned this a page back, and commented on how stupid it was.

But people like Tom and a few others, think DY was still our best option behind Prince, because Leyland said so.

I agree with Leyland.....if you have players that are similar in production you try to mix up RH and LH batters....it's common sense to most and yet you think it's stupid.

Who, pray tell is similar in production? And where did you hear that as a reason?

The fact is it's stupid to say two everyday players can't hit back-to-back because they both bat from the same side.

I'm not at all one of these "OMG fire that clown Leyland now" people, but some of the Leyland apologists are just as ridiculous, he could fall asleep in the dugout and some of you would think it's good strategy.

The reason some of us come across as Leyland appologists is because of all of the Leyland bashers here. I don't think he is a great game manager...he is probably average at best. I really don't care what the line up looks like as long as AJ is hitting first and Miggy / Prince fill out the 3 /4 spots (I really don't care which one hits in either spot). Over the course of a season the rest of the line up is a flip of the coin since most of players remaining on the roster sucked for most of the year. The bottom line is Leyand is a good manager....not for his in game decisions (right or wrong) but because he has the respect of his players and they play hard for him. That is the biggest part of his job.

Well I agree with Tom on this one. I never argue about the lineup because to me you are arguing which shoe do you want me to crap on...your left shoe or right shoe. As long as he's not bating Miggy and Prince 8th and 9th then I'm fine with it.

We had a too many underperforming players all year long. It's not like we had great guys just sitting on the bench waiting to play. He had to play crap and the other guys on the bench were crap. We are now playing guys who none of us ever thought would be on this roster (Berry and Garcia). And the second Berry was brought up here most were constantly saying he sucks and water will find it's level, etc. Same with the bull pen. Everytime someone is brought in to pitch the board blows up saying...not him. So I'm not sure what some of you want him to do.

I liked Berry from the get-go. Now Dirks was hurt for a while, but as soon as he came back healthy, Boesch should've been sent down to AAA.

by Leyland logic, Miller Huggins was a moron for hitting Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig back to back because they were both lefties.

its stupid to have a less efficient lineup just for the occasional time that someone can use a LOOGY for 2 hitters in a row. stupid stupid stupid.

And next year when Vmart is hitting 5th behind Prince, the majority of it will be lefty.

OH NO!

Ill flip it a bit and say good thing DD does what we say on here. Weve been asking to shore up the rotation and get a 2nd baseman since last off season. Sanchez and infante have been a good trade.

They were good additions for this year, whether or not it turn out to be a good "trade" remains to be seen.
