The Lions offensive tweaking continued Friday, as they signed tackle Corey Hilliard to a two-year contract, according to ESPN?s Adam Schefter.

Hilliard was set to be an unrestricted free agent, and could compete for a starting job.

The Lions already cut guard Stephen Peterman, and right tackle Gosder Cherilus is a pending unrestricted free agent as well.

With first rounder Riley Reiff a starting-quality player without a starting job last year, and left tackle Jeff Backus 35 years old, the Lions are shaking things up. Center Dominic Raiola already took a major pay cut, and the moves likely aren?t finished.

Gosder had a good year and a good second half of 2011. But with Backus/Reiff he's expendable for 2013 at least. We'll see what Gosder gets on the open market.

If there is a cap problem it will be guys like Corey Williams, Gosder and Levy on top of KVB/Peterman getting the boot via let walk in free agency and cuts already made. No big deal losing any of those guys though I do like Corey and Gosder.

And please your dumbass opinions are no more valid than mine. All that matters is Mayhew and he's going to be here awhile. Nobody cares about your draft board compared to Mayhews or what your brilliant plan is to "fix" the Lions.

Doesn't have to be like that. Talk about specific players and how they'd fit but these grand plans how some no name message board poster is so smart and how Mayhew is so dumb from his past moves is getting old. Nobody here will ever have a GM job and Mayhew could out evaluate/scout anyone on here.

My thoughts on Mayhew. He may be able to out evaluate/scout anyone on a random message board, but he gets paid millions to out evaluate/scout 32 other NFL GMs. To me he hasn't shown that ability.

Welcome to the world of mock drafts. As a Lions fan the draft is literally our Super Bowl so you'll have to excuse people if they get passionate about it.
You want to discuss specific players and their abilities? Generally after a 4-12 season INABILITIES is a topic you can get a little more traction from.
Other than that if you are looking for pure cheerleaders start a Mayhew fan club board (how boring would that be, everyone agreeing on bad luck and ifs).

Your hindsight is all a bunch of bullshit. Mayhew does more right than wrong. The 0-8 finished sucked ass but watching the games it clearly wasn't a talent deficiency other than backups to backups playing for injured talented players.

Speaking for myself, the reason I have no common ground for discussion is that you defend everybody in the organization down to the guy who hands out mints in the shitter at Ford Field. If you said the coaching sucked, rather than the talent then ok I can buy that. Even in the post above you are saying we have no depth.

For me its not just the lack of talent, but Mayhew grossly underestimating the level of talent we had on the team last year (HE admits this even if you don't). This is a massive miscalculation, not knowing what it takes to go from fringe playoff team to perennial contender. To that end he didn't cut overpaid veterans and added complementary rather than foundational pieces in the draft last year. We hit reset this year, his words.

It's not a massive talent deficiency. It's something that the PLAYERs can turn around without Mayhew lifting a finger. Stafford first and foremost. 2012 was talented players underachieving and then injuries in the last 5 games. If they shit the bed again in 2013, well then it's a talent deficiency. Standing pat was the right call at the time as the Lions had to use their limited cap space thanks to the old CBA to keep important players like Avril, Backus, Tulloch and Hill. And the Lions did well in the draft with Reiff Broyles. The remaining will shall see as it was derailed at CB with injuries but Green did a solid job.

And I didn't say we had bad depth. I said backups to the backups, the first backups did quite well a good amount of time. Hill, Reiff, Broyles(for both Burleson and Young), Palmer for Levy, Fairley for CW and SLH for Fairley, Don Carey for Spievey once Carey got healthy, Bartell (1 game he played) did quite well. Green and Lacey did solid filling in as well but then Lacey got hurt too. Florence was like the last resort option who sucked when Bentley, Lacey were hurt and they wanted the vet over the rookie 6th round draft pick. Coleman was the wrong choice but he was up and down. Delmas, Spievey and Carey getting hurt kept Coleman on the field.

It's not all sunshine but there is reasons we lost and it's not extreme talent deficiency or poor coaching. Underachieving from previous good players and turnovers define 2012.

The only ones left that have any hope whatsoever are broyles and leshoure. Want to ruin a team fast?...draft like mayhew.

And that list you made on who you're bitching about is comical. Spievey, DWill were pretty much jokes. Young has talent but he went stircrazy...nobody could have called that. I'll give you that...no problem.
But Best was a gamechanger (wether you want to believe it or not).
Levy is a STARTER who was drafted late (not a bad pick for a 3rd rounder).
Leshoure showed some promise and coming off a HUGE injury. Shows he worked harder than we all give him credit for.
Broyles looks the slot WR we drafted him to be. He had an unfortunate injury. He should bounce back.
Then you bash on guys like Whitehead and Greenwood? Let these motherfuckers get their dicks wet before you cast stones. They were later picks..ROOKIES.

And what the fuck is wrong with guys like KVB, Burleson and Tulloch coming here? They're starters who came to Detroit to make this team better. According to you, this team is so fn sunk, why would any FA want to even come here, right? You think guys like Brady, P. Willis or the Clay Matthews of the NFL are walking through this door? Its not about Mayhew's farts smelling like roses all the time. He's made some mistakes and he's hit on guys as well. This team has gotten better since his tenure. They just need to fn stay healthy and start gelling. Just because YOU don't like what they do, doesn't mean they're wrong.
