Guardians @ Tigers, Game #80, July 5th 2022

Seems he's now just a singles man. very little extra base HR power anymore. idk haven't really watched many games is he not using the legs to drive em anymore? Everything just a two strike approach so he can still catch up to them?

I'm pretty sure he has one more full year on the contract before they can buy him out. IMO he will be the full time DH again next year then gets bought out and retires. Maybe becomes a hitting coach after that.

You are correct...he is just a singles hitter now. He only has 10 XBH this year. I'm excited for the day he is off this roster.

Hopefully Tork turns the corner in the last 81 games.....otherwise we might have to consider keeping Cabrera for 2023.

Does anyone read my posts? He's here for '23. He's already said.

Just because HE says he's here for 2023 doesn't mean that's what the Tigers would/should want.

He's a $30M singles hitter that can't run or play defense. He's hit his milestones.

At this point in 2022 there's no reason to cut him......but by the beginning of 2023.. he's taking a roster spot from someone.

Throw him a big ass celebration the last home series this year, he deserves that, but for the good of the team he shouldn't be on the roster next year.

pay him $40M to walk away??

Miguel Cabrera loves Cleveland pitching. He has hit .314/.391/.531 with 276 hits and 174 career RBIs, most against any AL Central opponent over 237 career games.

He's a HOF and he's owed a lot of money.. You're not able to trade him. No one will take on that.

$40M is a lot, but yes?..pay him and cut him. They?ve paid him about $200M to be a replacement level player since 2017.

Feelings aside, it?s time.

Believe me, I'm no Cabrera fan. But, two things would have to be true for it to make sense to just pay him to leave. First, they would have to think they are a true playoff contender. Second, they would have to have a player in the system that is better than he is now that is being held up because Cabrera is on the roster.

To be honest, I'm not sure either one of those scenarios are true.

So 40 to play elsewhere so who plays DH.. It's not like we have guys worth anything in Toledo or Erie.

Tom you would have traded Mr. Kaline. We don't get better by him playing elsewhere.

I highly doubt I would have traded Kaline. Back then you didn't have to risk the future of the team because one player is locked into a huge long term contract. But if I had a choice to either trade Cabrera after his 2nd MVP or sign him to an ungodly extension, I would have traded him.

it will be tough to beat the Smoltz trade.

Oh I forget history already, getting old. at least the tigers got a 9-0 finish into the playoff run that year out of Alexander even though they just got whooped by the Twins in the playoffs they still got something! better than virtually nothing as Meadows doesn't even have a single GD HR and he's hurt all the damn time.

Anyway.I got an AB vs Smoltz once in a HS summer league was a freshman he was a senior, he stuck my ass out on 3 pitches all fastballs I foul tipped the third into the catchers glove though! lol. He hit a HR off us also he pretty much dominated the game won it all by himself basically, we were all just cannon fodder to keep him fresh before the draft.
