Guardians @ Tigers, Game #80, July 5th 2022

Oh I forget history already, getting old. at least the tigers got a 9-0 finish into the playoff run that year out of Alexander even though they just got whooped by the Twins in the playoffs they still got something better than virtually nothing as Meadows doesn't even have a single GD HR and he's hurt all the damn time.

Anyway.I got an AB vs Smoltz once in a HS summer league was a freshman he was a senior, he stuck my ass out on 3 pitches all fastballs I foul tipped the third into the catchers glove. He hit a HR off us also he pretty much dominated the game won it all by himself basically, we were all just cannon fodder to keep him fresh before the draft.

so, he was the shohei ohtani of your summer league! :lmao:

I highly doubt I would have traded Kaline. Back then you didn't have to risk the future of the team because one player is locked into a huge long term contract. But if I had a choice to either trade Cabrera after his 2nd MVP or sign him to an ungodly extension, I would have traded him.

But the contract was long time ago. I see no benefit of releasing him now.

Right. As I said...

two things would have to be true for it to make sense to just pay him to leave. First, they would have to think they are a true playoff contender. Second, they would have to have a player in the system that is better than he is now that is being held up because Cabrera is on the roster.

To be honest, I'm not sure either one of those scenarios are true.

And don't forget singles hitter or not he's our best player at the moment. Let him finish his career where he wants to be and if he has to sit more next season so be it.

Schoop, .566 OPS, lol. Baez not much better. Green doesn't count hasn't been here long.

you do know that those guys all play defense, don't you? Schoop and Baez are both plus defenders, Cabrera is a paper weight.

And how can Greene not count? You did say right now, didn't you?

Not sure it makes up for .150 OPS.

It probably does. There are other things in play as well. Schoop has 4 SB, Miggy actually clogs up the basepaths with his extreme lack of speed. Schoop has 10 more XBH. His offensive WAR is 0.5 compared to Miggy's 0.2

If a Tiger offensive guy goes to the all star game it certainly won't be Schoop. Check out RISP / 2-outs. One is massive the other is far from it. Certainly over comes 4 SB's.

so, you are on record saying that Miggy is more of an asset to the team (considering position played) than Schoop? A DH that clogs up the basepaths and doesn't contribute anything defensively vs the best defensive player on the entire team and a player that has 10 more XBH than Miggy?

As bad as Schoop has been at the plate, I think he has been a better player than Miggy this year.

anyway...I'm done talking about this. Neither one are good.

I'm gonna go golfing.

Yep.

He has, statistically speaking, been a replacement or AAAA player since the beginning of 2017. In that time he has earned $180,000,000.

Him being the best hitter on the team this year doesn't mean he's been good.

Kerry Carpenter https://www.milb.com/player/kerry-carpenter-681481 would be a likely replacement for Miggy. Like almost all players throughout the Tigers orginization, his BB/SO ratio isn't good, but neither is Miggy's.

I would rather give Carpenter a chance than watch Miggy hit soft line drives and slow dribblers through the right side for another year. Cabrera is not far away from being a .210 hitter with 5 HR and 40 RBI potential.
