Hagel

tsmith, this is the problem with you, you just don't get it, and/or you just don't care.

you lost the respect of a large, 'A Large' majority of posters here, yet come back and post as if nothing happened,

and in recent weeks, you have done your best to troll and bait posters.

#Shameless.

All of us came over from espn, we all posted together there for years, whether we agreed with each others thoughts or not, we respected each other.
wtf happened to you?

stop butting in....you come on here making a personal attack against me. Remember, it was you, who said no "bait/troll/attack". You could have come in and made a contribution in the argument...but nope...personal attack.

Was tsmith really banned?

And if he was, why...because while he may be a huge tool, I didn't see him violate any rules.

I don't think so, but if he was, it would have been within the last half hour.

Because that's how long ago it was when he made his last stupid post.

I gave tsmith an infraction.
after his comments back to me, and said by him in private message, he got another.
what happened from there is gladly out of my control.

whether anyone disagrees with it or not, from almost every posts and thread he was involved in, there was some lingering animosity. instigated, but also seemingly brought on by him. imo.

Maybe something could or should have been done 3 months ago, then too, his refusal to acknowledge any wrongdoing led to the past 2/3 months.

only two other times an infraction given by me was w/chico, and then last summer with a poster on the Tigers board.

Hagel will be confirmed , as will Brennan and Jack Lew.

In the "read this" sticky thread when the board was created Monster added "JUST A FAIR WARNING: I will not ban anyone in this section for posting their opinions, no matter how colorful their wording is. Add to the discussion at your own risk!"

He basically said its a political board shit will be said, have some thick skin. Though it isn't Monster's board any longer, I still see it as his.

I agree. given the way a lot of conservative outlets closed ranks with Hagel after the first couple criticisms hit the media, I think the Hagel thing was now only a distraction to allow the Brennan nomination to slip by without attracting too much criticism from the people who opposed him the first time.

Barry will also stick it to them when he brings Susan Rice over as his NSA.

yeah, that's kinda how I view this board (and any other). say whatever you want publicly, but taking things personal, posting IP addresses, sending private threats, that sort of insane stuff crosses a line.

making a bet and welching on it like that though is kinda bogus though. I guess that didn't technically cross the line of anything in Monster's rules, but it's getting closer to it

it's also a pretty disingenuous way to argue, for what it's worth. he's done it a bunch of times too, including once to me. if you're going to call out others like that to "put their money where their mouth is," and try to end arguments that way, you should be man enough to back it up.

guess he seems to have stopped doing it after the election bet with Elrod at least.

I'll say this, and if I get an infraction or banned, so be it.

A mod came here into the politics section, not to discuss the topics we talk/argue about, but to bait and insult a poster. When said poster retaliated, he got in trouble.

I also thought about the rules to this sub forum, which basically say you come here at your own risk, we know some things are a no-no, such as extreme personal attacks (as Vic found out), and afaik, tsmith, as wrong as most of us believe him to be, never crossed any lines, unless it was in PM's, about those attacks, though it seemed like he got plenty.

The bet thing is really between him and Elrod, as distasteful as it was that he didn't hold to it, how is it actionable by anyone here?

The big thing is the politics board is a yin-yang thing, it only works well if we have 2 sides, and the loss of tsmith, hurts the board, because the majority of us will now sit around agreeing with each others, instead of having point, counter-point discussions on the topics.

Smitty was a real douche at times, but this feels like a witch hunt.

There, I have said my piece.

I agree with everything you said in regards to banning. if Smitty got banned just for replying in kind, that's absurd. Ugh... it's tough to defend the creep, but... oh well.

and I'm reminded of the quote from Voltaire (I think it was) which I remembered after I posted my last thing. "While I don't agree with what you say, I will give my life to defend your right to say it."

so it would be hypocritical in the extreme to deny someone the right to say something just because it's completely idiotic. but now if he crossed some other line via PM...

Shouldn't someone get banned for quoting Voltaire on a sports message board? Lol.

I haven't made up my mind on the tsmith thing. Maybe the stated rules should change. This isn't an organization that needs to follow a strict set of rules that provide for all situations. The mods aren't ban-happy, so I'd be content to let them call it as they see it. It's not like people have a right to post to this forum, we post because we like discussing things with eachother. When someone crosses whatever line it is where they make the board less enjoyable, maybe that's when it's ok to use the boot. We enjoy confrontation and disagreement, so that has nothing to do with the line. Even when there's a loner sticking to his guns on a position where nobody else agrees with him, it's not the same as what's going on with tsmith. On the other hand, you don't need bans to exclude people from conversations. I ignore most of tsmith's posts and don't generally reply to them anymore because I don't find them interesting. If people are still responding to him, then maybe he does bring some kind of value to the board...just not to me.

I dislike the guy as much as the next person, but the board DOES need a right-winger on here.

Even if he is nonsensical.

I think we're all adults here.

People come to the board for a reason and like all communities and groups, not everbody gets along all the time. You also have the opportunity to express yourself freely and emphatically and whether Voltaire or the 1st Amendment, Freedom of Speech around here isn't a problem.

I know I am pretty blunt at times and post as a cathartic (I should be banned for that) thing, but I am also 100% genuine and admit when I'm wrong.

Hell, before I met Tinsel in LA I thought he was Asian.
