Some interesting names in here...

http://www.detnews.com/article/20111104/SPORTS0104/111040361/In-photos--Tigers-offseason-shopping-list

He seems to think we will go hardest after Buehrle, Sizemore, Hill, Shoppach, and Nathan from the sounds of his comments.

Sizemore is interesting in that he could be a leadoff hitter and provide improved defense in left IF (huge IF) he could stay healthy. I'd like the defensive look of Grady/Ajax/Boesch a lot. That'd be lightyears ahead of anything we've trotted out there recently defensively. I'm just not sure Grady can stay healthy or put up numbers like he did a few years ago.

C. Beltran 111.66 RC/650 .297 BAVG .394 OBP .496 SLG .891 OPS

D. Wright 97.98 RC/650 .288 BAVG .352 OBP .476 SLG .828 OPS

C. Headley 93.71 RC/650 .305 BAVG .366 OBP .438 SLG .804 OPS

J. Carroll 88.52 RC/650 .303 BAVG .383 OBP .377 SLG .760 OPS

R. Barajas 84.46 RC/650 .252 BAVG .287 OBP .485 SLG .772 OPS

K. Johnson 82.12 RC/650 .244 BAVG .318 OBP .420 SLG .738 OPS

K. Shoppach 77.12 RC/650 .215 BAVG .341 OBP .391 SLG .732 OPS

D. DeJesus 77.03 RC/650 .265 BAVG .333 OBP .413 SLG .746 OPS

A. Ramirez 76.73 RC/650 .246 BAVG .306 OBP .432 SLG .738 OPS

G. Sizemore 72.12 RC/650 .221 BAVG .296 OBP .410 SLG .706 OPS

A. Hill 69.99 RC/650 .251 BAVG .296 OBP .394 SLG .690 OPS

C. Getz 57.15 RC/650 .237 BAVG .302 OBP .288 SLG .590 OPS

Why on earth would DET (or Henning) want Getz?

Once again, Henning loses any credibility with me.

Agreed. My guess is he wanted to throw in the name of a local guy. He doesn't make any sense, nor would he make an impact for us.

Rather Kelly Johnson much over Getz, the latter who has some speed but no power and a mediocre OPS, Kelly is a risk, but so are most FAs, he would be a LH batter (who throws RH) in a mainly RH IF and the Tigers could bid on his services instead of having to trade for a 2B.

Why exactly do people want to sign sizemore again? All i read is how people on here dont want reyes cause of his hamstring...but atleast he put up good numbers while hes on the field. Sizemore hasnt had a good season since the 70s it seems...and doesnt fill a position of need. Am i the only one confused what the attraction is???

Kelly Johnson 1 year deal is fine by me

Sizemore 1 year deal use him as a 4th outfielder....till someone gets hurt then he plays everyday

Odds are he'd be the one hurt though. LOL!

I'm not interested in Johnson as a Type A FA unless we signed another big time Type A guy. No way are we surrendering our pick on Johnson alone.

Well..trading for help in the IF will cost the Tigers pitching, since that is the best and only area where they have any real or desirable "surplus" to offer, and I really don't see anyone outside of a FA SP that the Tigers could conceivably sac a draft pick for instead of Johnson, likely being the "coveted" but probably very overpriced and too long of a contract CJ Wilson, and DD would most likely use the pick on...guess what? ::)

I'm just saying I can't see us giving up a 1st round pick for Johnson. If it is Johnson and another Type A guy, it's more palatable.

Sizemore would be nice, obviously saying that I mean he gets a contract short in length and high in incentives. Buy Low type of deal. At the very least he is an affordable 4th OF and defensive replacement, however upside is a lot.

If I can't get on board with Reyes because of his injury history there is no way i want to waste money on Sizemore. That cat is done for.. Spend the money elsewhere... I would be ok with johnson then i was reminded we lose a high draft pick so now I am not sure about him.

Agreed. Reyes' health is a concern, but not as much as Sizemore's would be. I'd be on board incentive laced deals though.

There really aren't a lot of exciting players players out there for us just yet. Pujols and Fielder are out, Sabathia reupped with the Yanks, and Reyes, Rollins and Beltran all have downside for the money they'll likely command. Guys like Johnson, Buehrle, etc. could be nice additions to what we've built so far, but are highly underwhelming. Maybe DD will surprise us with a big trade though.

I'm not sure being high priced is a downside. It seems Mike I. is o,ay about getting some talent regardless what DD says. Its not mine or your money. So how is there a downside?

Steer clear of Reyes...he has Carl Pavano to the Yankees written all over him.

I didn't know Johnson was a type A free agent...... that sucks

DD might make a trade FOR A 2B

Downside is age, injury and decline risks compared to the years and money they'd be seeking. Not much chance they'd exceed expectations on what they'd sign for. I'd love us to sign a big FA and Reyes is probably the best fit for what we currently lack, but he's far from being a sure bet signing given his leg issues and being a player with a game that's predicated on speed.

But who does it effect? No cap, so if turns out bad cut him.

And he's only 28 so age certainly isn't a downside. And outside one year, his injury history isn't that bad. Blown out of proportion IMO.
