Hockey News interview with Holland.

Uhh pretty sure the reason Stevie has stepped down because he was too far away from his family and never gets to spend time with them... They live in DETROIT... What has pointed to him going to Seattle even in the slightest? He wants to be with his family, that's in Detroit, so how would being in Seattle be any different than Tampa? Why would you leave a great situation like Tampa to go to a complete unknown risky job with an expansion team THAT IS EVEN FARTHER FROM MI THAN FL..... Also all this Blash hating I mean I get it, we are a bad team but have been showing MANY signs of improvement over the past 10ish games... If Blash was such a horrible coach, pretty sure USA hockey wouldn't have him coaching their guys if he was SO bad... A new coach and system would only put this team back farther than it already is....

Well, its more of Detroit opening for GM spot isn't a done deal. If Holland is still here a year before Seattle comes, Yzerman is a top candidate for the Seattle job. Holland currently has a contract until summer of 2020.

Considering that Seattle is planned for 2020-21 season, they will likely name a GM during the 2019-20 season following Vegas' example. Hence, having Holland as the GM in Seattle unlikely.

BTW, Holland and Yzerman are the 2 main candidates for GM by hockey pundits.

It's not that Blash is a terrible coach (although his team's performances at WHC weren't exactly exemplary). His first go around went more lackluster. 2-0 shutout defeat to Finland in the first KO stage. His boy Larkin just couldn't crack Sateri.

Yes he beat Kanata for bronze, congrats. But he received a 6-0 shlacking against Sweden and their KHL caliber goalies. Maybe it was addition of Bylsma to coaching staff, or getting Kane who carried the team.

Lastly, I should note that there are limited number of Yankee coaches in the NHL, and even less those whom don't make the playoffs.

Looking at 2018
Housley
Torts - playoffs
Blashill
Lavender - playoffs
Hynes - playoffs

To paraphrase someone else, "Blash coaches every game as if holding a 1 goal lead late in the playoffs". Its a sentiment that I agree with, his systems are styfling the talent of many of the players (prime example, years of limiting the play of AA). And his ability to motivate players seems to be..... limited if you look at how little effort guys like Mantha and Abbie play on a regular basis.

Here is the thing about coaching, you can only hear the same shit over and over again. Blashcock as he used to be affectionally called, tried to mimmick Babcock is every aspect. That is bad for a veteran group which needs a new voice.

To summarize, Blash ain't a bad coach, but this just isn't the best place for him to excel. Especially with a declining veteran roster.

Still don't think Stevie has any interest in Seattle at all... I know they could want him as their first choice, but if he has no interest then it's kind of a moot point. I haven't heard anything pointing to him being interested, where as most things he's said, point to him wanting to be in Detroit with his family, whether it be working with the Wings or not. Is being the GM of an expansion team even really that alluring? IMO that's a hard situation for a GM to walk into, and I get wanting a "new/harder challenge", but why leave a GREAT situation in Tampa just to go try to start it all over again in Seattle? I just don't see it happening...

He's not going to mention it he's still employed by the Lightening.
