I can't believe anyone is seriously complaining that Soria did not pitch around a Rookie PH.

A guy like Soria has stuff good enough to go right after top hitters, you don't dance around a 24 year old who comes in cold off the bench like he was Miggy.

99% of the time Soria is going to come out on top in that scenario, this just happened to be that 1%. Credit to Tucker for a good swing, no blame to Soria/MCCaan at all.

No complaints at all. Soria has done a real nice job as our closer..blown saves happen. He's one player I can't complain about..

He has over 10 more years on his contract. If he "only" has 550 HR, 2000 RBI, 600 2B and 3000 hits this is what he would have to average.

15 HR, 60 RBI, 13 2B, 76.3 hits a season

That would make his 10 year extension the worst contract in baseball history!

If he averages (based off his career season averages) 15 fewer doubles, 10 fewer HR, 20 fewer hits and 20 less RBI per season over the next 10 years (rounded numbers) this would be his "average season" going forward

He is under contact until 2023, with a team option for 2024 and 2025. If he is top 10 MVP voting, they become guaranteed.

His career average (not including this year is:

182 hits, 39 doubles, 33 HR (32.5, rounded up), 97 R, 114 RBI, .319 BA

If he were to hit at his average until 2023, the numbers are ridiculous. 3826 H, 812 2b, 683 HR, nearly 2400 RBI. Obviously, this is not going to happen. Guys regress.

The fact that he will be able to DH soon should help mitigate some of that. He is in pretty good shape, too. He had major ankle surgery and still came to ST in shape this year.

I think we may be able to get 5-6 more years at his average production. If he performs at an average rate (for him, the guy's a freaking superhero), here's what the end of 2020 would look like:

3279 H 696 2b 585 HR 2053 RBI

If he regressed over the final 3 years to an average of:

140 H 25 2b 20 HR 80 RBI (BA of .280)

He would finish 2023 with:

3699 H 771 2b 645 HR 2293 RBI and a career average of .315

Maybe I'm way off base, but I think this could be near where he winds up, maybe a little on the high side.

He is sitting on 400 HRs. He has hit 252 in 7 years with DET, 36 HR a season average and that was with him hurt. You don't think he can average 24 home runs a season over the next 10?

The thing is, he could get halfway there (40 per year) in the next three years. You just never know. Health will be the key. I think we are watching an all time great; like top 10 all time great, player.
