Houston makes a deal with Detroit

Does anyone know if Meeks or Thornton play a serviceable backup PG?

Neither can play PG. Thornton is a streaky shooter like J.R. Smith. There will be games where he's chucking up bad shots and some games where he'll have 28 points and 6-7 threes. Hopefully more of the latter. I was hoping they got back Augustin. He did well in his short time as a starter here. I think he was averaging 18 and 8 as a starter in Detroit and shooting fairly well. Would've been nice to have back as a backup that could play 20 minutes.

I think Meeks is just a shooting guard but sadly he is out for the rest of the year.
Not sure about Thornton.

I heard them say on the radio last night that Meeks was practicing again for the last two days, but "wasn't doing up and down stuff yet". Maybe there is still a chance he returns this year.

I like the gamble... if DeMo (how can you not like this trade just to get a guy nicknamed DeMo on the team :) ) is healthy he is (literally and figuratively) head and shoulders above whoever we might have picked up in the draft. He can fill in at the 4 or the 5, giving us shooting and decent D when Andre or Morris aren't on the floor.

And our 2nd team has been atrocious at times, so moving Johnson to the 2nd team and adding DeMo and Thornton is a nice offensive uptick, though our 2nd team defense will be a bit shaky.

That is this year, a good upgrade as long as DeMo is healthy. Long term (assuming we are able to resign a healthy DeMo), at the trade deadline Stan added two potentially starting caliber players who are under 25 to a team already young and talented and on the rise.

I like both moves, even though both are not sure things.

I don't mind either of the players we received, but we could have gotten more for that pick. A guy like Courtney Lee was had for less, and he would have made a much bigger impact on our playoff chances. Ryan Anderson or Channing Frye both are ideal fits that were available. Given the reluctance of teams with even lower picks to deal means we probably could have poached one of the better players that didn't get moved (Teague, Korver, Gibson, Young).

It wouldve cost a pick and Johnson to get the players you named, besides Channing Frye who is worse than D-Mo. I'm glad you are not the GM.

Best case scenario would be this deal is voided...I wasnt a fan of it to begin with, and if his back needs this much extra evaluation up front, No thanks!!!

Lets keep that 1st round pick...

I am hoping this gets voided too. 7 footers with chronic back problems don't tend to suddenly stay healthy later.

Would be nice to void this deal and if the word on his back is better in the offseason, we attempt to sign him then. I don't think Houston will re-sign him in the offseason. Would like that first rounder back.

Just read it is in the process of being voided. Detroit docs aren't going to clear Montiejunas's back.

A healthy DMO is better than a mid round first round pick but if he isn't healthy it's a no brainer. Good job doctors.
