How the Mueller Investigation Could Play Out for Trump

Apparently there are rumblings about whether or not Barr committed perjury when he made his Senate testimony on 4/10.

The question was asked of Barr: "Did Bob Mueller support your conclusion?"

Barr's answer: "I don’t know whether Bob Mueller supported my conclusion.”

Turns out, Barr received a letter from Mueller on 3/27 that read:

“The summary letter the Department sent to Congress and released to the public late in the afternoon of March 24 did not fully capture the context, nature, and substance of this office’s work and conclusions,” Mueller wrote, according to the Post.

“There is now public confusion about critical aspects of the results of our investigation. This threatens to undermine a central purpose for which the Department appointed the Special Counsel: to assure full public confidence in the outcome of the investigations,” the Post quoted Mueller as writing.

The gift that keeps on giving!

Where’s jwdildo to lecture us on ‘No collusion’ now?

Seems ambiguous enough, on the surface of it, to sail...

Yeah, I figured 'rumblings' was a mild enough description for what it probably is. Barr was certainly disingenuous, I'm curious to see if it was enough to get Mueller in front of Congress. I certainly think it pissed him off, he'd been operating under radio silence for months before that letter.

is that a saying?

i've never heard it before

I don’t know.

There are lots of sailing idioms.

Here is one list of many on the internet.

I guess I was thinking “on the surface to fly,” but at the time it seemed like a mixed metaphor, except, of course, it isn’t; anything that flies of course, flies on a surface.

Maybe he realized this isn't going to result in Obama getting indicted for... uh... whatever it is they think he did here, and stopped posting like he said he would?

Or maybe he killed himself...? I was only joking when I told him he should. Well, half joking.

seems like we're not getting the full and accurate picture here (shocker). Turns out Mueller's letter doesn't say he disagreed with the conclusions drawn in Barr's letter, just that it lacked context and was creating "confusion about critical aspects of the results of the investigation." According to the Post report, "When Barr pressed Mueller on whether he thought Barr's memo to Conress was inaccurate, Mueller said he did not but felt that the media coverage of it was misinterpreting the investigation, officials said."

In the discussion in #1121, both Mueller and Barr were ambiguous.

yeah, I saw that but in the Post report, Mueller is not ambiguous about the fact that he doesn't disagree w/ Barr's conclusions. Outside of this forum, there are multiple Dem senators and reps calling Barr a liar and saying he should resign - Mazie Hirono called Barr a liar and told him to resign to his face in a committee hearing today. Kamala Harris has made similar comments to the press.

I didn’t read the Post report-so I just perused it now and at a glance it appeared to me to be an interpretation of the Mueller letter.

So there’s really no need for me to read an interpretation of something that I had actually read.

yeah, I'm not saying anyone here got it wrong. I'm just pointing out that a pretty big detail is missing in the coverage. SGG's link which is a Reuters report of a Post report of the Mueller letter and it left out the fact that Mueller doesnt disagree with the conclusions in Barr's letter to Congress.

Its pretty crazy that members of Congress are intentionally slandering Barr - I find it hard to believe they dont know Mueller doesn't disagree with Barr's conclusion. they have to know they're lying when calling Barr a liar.

Here I am, Rocky. To be clear, and because I’m slow, are you saying Trump did collude? Do you know something Mueller doesn’t? Do you not understand the words NO COLLUSION?

Yeah, see my response above, #1136 - it was sarcasm, Einstein.

And pretty good, too.

Talk about inept and unthinking, sheesh - your posts are getting more and more to be like Stevie Wonder back seat driving.
