agreed but prior to becoming POTUS, he was pretty much irrelevant to the DC power structure - he was a player at the local and state level for sure. his pre POTUS life isnt really relevant to my point though. As POTUS the idea that he somehow gets a level of special treatment and gets away with things other POTUSes would certainly be charged with is asinine.

It's possible to dislike Donald Trump but still recognize that he was influential in NY real estate and he didn't spectacularly blow up his political connections despite having declared bankruptcy on several projects. Those connections didn't really get blown up until he sought and won the Republican nomination.
