I don't like it, but it's true

Perhaps it is because of this Saturday's opponent, but Brian Kelly went (4-8) in south bend and didn't exactly crush it in his first five years. He went (8-5) in three of the those years and had games VACATED before going 10-3 and then 4-8. While I am also a bit disappointed in a few things like the record v osu, I don't see the point in changing coaches now or slagging on Harbaugh when his first five are quite decent in terms of record and the recruiting he's done.

We've never won the conference or beat OSU? That's what he's being asked to do. We all know we used to be able to do those things.

We've been close to beating OSU with Harbaugh, but it feels like we are getting farther and farther away from being able to do that.

M and OSU were mirror-image programs once. That is not the case now. OSU is an SEC-like school north of the Mason-Dixon line. It is a football factory. Michigan has never been that, and never will be that. For Michigan to compete with OSU, it has to do what OSU does, and that's not likely.

What was Lloyd, 1-6 v OSU after Cooper?

After Cooper, the majority of times The Game was for the B1G championship, or a share
of it, as I recall - just couldn?t (except for the once) win it.

Then Lloyd left, and not only could Michigan not win The Game; Michigan couldn?t beat Toledo.

Hoke snuck in a home win the year Tressel was fired - I think that was the year.

So Harbaugh has Michigan back to where Lloyd left the program - often coming up short of the B1G title via, arguably, losing to the Buckeyes.

He?ll get over the hump though.

The Game is basically going dormant. They have recruiting advantages Michigan can't/won't match. Can't keep up with their talent level because of it.

We may be able to even things out once the Power 5 schools finally tell the NCAA to pound sand and go all in on players being able to profit from their likeness. That will level the recruiting playing field and the rivalry may be reborn. Until then, we'll keep losing to OSU 95% of the time.

We?ll see.

I started following Michigan football in bowls first season, and from then until Carr left, Michigan was 20-17-2; those numbers include the disastrous second half of Lloyd Carr?s tenure.

I am hoping Harbaugh be able to figure out a way to start beating Ohio State; I?m thinking a Harbaugh departure would result in another dick wad 2.0.

I get this point, but look at things from a different angle in terms of recruiting ...

Harbaugh puts kids in the NFL every year. We may not bring in the same 'type' of players as osu, but kids that play for UM and for Harbaugh are going pro as much or moreso than any time I can remember.

I know he does, but name one successful skill position player from Michigan in the NFL.

Not having those guys is a huge disadvantage.

This is it, folks:

Tom Brady, Jake Butt, Amara Darboh, Devin Funchess, Zach Gentry, Chad Henne.

Jabrill Peppers (including him too)

You serious, Clark? Like I forgot Brady.
However, Brady is from an era when we actually beat OSU.

He wasn't at Michigan when the wheels fell off.

There is one guy on that list that is a good pro. He happens to be the GOAT and like I just mentioned, was at Michigan when we actually beat OSU.

No, I wasn?t being serious.

I was being a smartass.

It?s obvious it wasn?t what you were talking about.

But it is technically what you asked.

Teed up too perfectly to lay off.

What does that line, ?you serious, Clark?? From? Is it from the TV show with Dean Cain and Terry Hatcher?

EDIT: Just look it up. National Lampoon.

My bad. Dealing with a 3 month old shuts off my smart ass detector from time to time.

The smart assery is appreciated even though I'm late to the party.

I was just pointing to the fact that recruiting is fine. Byco has made the point about the current state of the rivalry and I agree. Winning 9-11 games under Harbaugh is fine. OSU is SEC-North and the B10 East is the strongest division in any conference, by far.

Recruiting really isn't fine. It's ok, but we have major holes. See CB recruiting and DT recruiting.

Doesn?t help to have turnover in coaches/recruiters every year but Partridge is doing well and from a ?rankings? standpoint were solid.

I know it could be worse. I'm just concerned bc DT and CB are the two most important spots for shutting down offenses these days. We're so thin at those two spots after this year.
