I don't like it, but it's true

I know it could be worse. I'm just concerned bc DT and CB are the two most important spots for shutting down offenses these days. We're so thin at those two spots after this year.

That's the biggest concern for me with the recruiting as well. The rankings are great, top 5 each year since Jim has gotten here (or close, I don't feel like looking it up). The issue has been that the classes have been loaded at certain spots like WR and LB and short on spots like CB and OL. DL recruiting has been great, but hurt by the fact that they lost a couple to transfer and early entry to the NFL. They're also inflating their rankings with volume because they have had classes of 25 or more most of the time that Jim has been here (again going on memory) and there are teams like OSU that have as high or higher rating with 5 or more fewer players because they're getting more quality.

So no. They're not cheating (as much as) OSU.LSU, Bama are and they're still managing to get the talent. They just need to do a better job of retaining and developing that talent and forecasting where the need is going to be a year or two down the road. They know who's staying and who's going, they know how many people they have at each position. It shouldn't be that difficult to go into a recruiting cycle and say "we need to prioritize a, b, c and we're looking for x number of guys at positions x, y & z."

To their credit, they have done an excellent job of identifying guys before others have. A lot of the recruiting profiles I've read talk about Michigan getting in before other schools and they have found guys like Ronnie Bell who nobody else even looked at. The guys in their classes almost always rise in the rankings throughout their high school careers so they are seeing the potential before a lot of other schools. They just need it to translate on the field because they have the talent to compete with the top flight teams.

There is a lot of difference between 3 top 10 recruiting classes with a top 25 recruiting class when comparing to schools that have had 4 top 5 classes. That difference can be huge.
