Basketball has enough games that a champion is easy to determine throughout the regular season. I guess if it generates a little money for the conferences it's fine.

Wouldn't it be cool if Michigan played Eastern in the NCAA championship game?

Yes and even though they beat us in Ann Arbor the last time we payed them I think we would be a big favorite! !! Akron upset wmu so wmu gets a under .500 Akron team in Mac quarterfinals.

It really just allows everyone a shot at the NCAA field . Yeah it sucks if teams Lose bid's to under .500 teams but oh well.

With unbalanced schedules in just about every conference a regular season championship is not what it used to be. And plus, the idea of everyone getting a shot again is pretty cool and adds to the whole spectacle. Conferences are free to determine their automatic qualifier any way they like and there has been a trend in recent years to stack things for the higher finishers (double byes and what not) which I like as an approach.

It all plays out pretty nicely as a timeline. The smaller conferences all get their moment in the sun earlier during Championship Week and it kind of sets the table for the big conferences playing later in the week, culminating in Selection Sunday. Of course, the Big Ten had to go and screw that all up this year.

Yeah I agree but Even though they liked playing at the Garden jim Delany has come out and said he dislikes the compressed schedule the Big ten had to do this year. I think the next four are at indy and Chicago. I think they should rotate it as much as possible . Detroit, Minneapolis, indy , and Chicago . Then once every 5 or so years throw in Washington and new York if possible.

Dang I wanted Fsu to beat Louisville but sadly Fsu is a no show today. FSU Looks awful. I want the cheating ass Cardinals out of the Ncaa tournament.
Fsu on a 32-14 run still down 8. Fsu has a really dumb coach. Down 8 with 45 seconds left he does not foul and let's clock go all the way down ..dumb.

the bottom line is these small conferences don't even belong in the NCAA tournament. There needs to be a new division for these conferences. Let them compete in a tournament of equals where they have a chance.

Maybe but for now it's not happening.

Sadly freaking Virginia Tech just blew a big lead verses Norte Dame and now all night and tommorow we have to listen to joe Lunardi and others blow ND's 20-13 cock. I think if ND lost this game they would have been Nit bound.

It's fine the way it is. Small conferences more than have a right to belong. This isn't college football where the minnows can't compete with the big boys. Great teams from small conferences have always represented themselves well in the tournament. Tell George Mason, or VCU, or Florida Gulf Coast, or Ohio that they didn't belong.

No smaller division, no splitting up anything. The tournament is great, leave it alone.

I agree. small conference champs are no less competitive in the Tourney than also-rans from the Big Ten, SEC, Pac12, etc. leave it the way it is... it, alongside the college football regular season, is my favorite event in sports.

There hasn't been a champion outside the "power 5 conference" since the tournament was expanded to 64 teams. Not one. The lowest seed to ever win the tournament was an 8 seed. 30 point blowouts in the first round do nothing for the tournament.

Who cares? Why do they have to be a champion? Why would you strip them of that opportunity?

Do you know how hard it is to win a national title? Outside of UCLA, the majority of power teams have like 3-6 to their name. Making the F4 is an incredible accomplishment.

The playing field is so much more level in college basketball. That's why we have upsets all the time. Is it harder for a 12 to make a deep run? Sure. But 11-12 seeds get to the S16 on almost a regular basis. I don't understand why you would take that away so we can have a boring, generic, top 32 team tournament.

I think the point of the tournament is to determine a champion. Why put teams in the tournament that have no chance?
