Ichiro would be the most logical choice in lf...

I like adding Ichiro because he adds a different dimension. Yes he may be declining but he is still a decent player and would match well I think with our team.

ichiro pros:

- he can still play decent/good defense
- he can run the bases smartly and fairly well still

ichiro cons:
- he walks less than delmon young
- he barely gets on base these days. as thumb said, this negates his baserunning skills. whats the point if he cant get on?
- he has absolutely zero power
- he will likely not come cheap despite his age

there is no reason we should sign him. it makes much more sense to just get a RH platoon partner for Dirks who crushes lefties and is at least decent on defense. we can keep berry on the roster if we want someone who can run the bases well.

No faith in his NY numbers at the plate? And is a declining defense by his standards poor defense?

None what so ever. Look at his splits in NY.

Ichiro with NYY Away .282 BAVG .292 OBP .336 SLG .628 OPS

Ichiro with NYY Home .359 BAVG .385 OBP .564 SLG .949 OPS

Certainly, Ichiro is still an above average defensive OFer. I find there not to be any value in Ichiro, except his defense. His speed is negated by his lack of getting on base. No power, does not draw walks, etc, etc.

It was pretty much the speed.

I don't buy the argument that he was good at it but it was the speed while AJ success or lack of was poor base running. Granted Berry is fast but even the fastest guys get caught, you have to have some skill at it to be successful.

Okay. You convinced me. Thanks.

He seems to really enjoy hitting in Comerica Park:

56 Career Games in Comerica Park:
.346 AVG
.376 OBP
.463 SLG
.839 OPS
