I'll say it

Think about who Michigan has faced in BCS bowl games past. They're due a gimme. I say take the BCS bowl win, 11 win season, probable top 10 ranking and run.

why is everyone so certain that we will beat houston? Im telling you guys - it is not going to be a blow out like you all think if we do in fact play them. They have a mean air game and we dont have a mean secondary. I would much rather play a team with a mobile QB like WVU.

They are #6 in the country for a reason - they havent lost.

Houston is not a gimme game.

As far as BCS opponents go, it's about as weak an opponent as we'll see, and a great opportunity to get a win. Gimme was a poor word choice.

BCS or bust. Houston though reminds me of UNLV in basketball. When they ran the table even smoking UM, high potent offense and 3-point shots. No one expected it but they caught fire.

I agree. Houston would be a nice challenge, and a winnable bowl game. Assuming they win the C-USA championship game they would be a top ten team. They have generated some attention this year, deserved or not. Speculation is that their coach is the front runner to replace Texas A&M's coach. Whether or not Houston deserves to be a top 10 team, a win for Michigan over a top 10 team would probably move them up into the top 10 in the final polls, which would be a great way to end the season, rather than facing a team like Alabama and getting pummeled.

I guess this will all be resolved this weekend.
Go Blue!

Houston's opponents;

UCLA, North Texas, Louisiana Tech, Georgia State, UTEP, East Carolina, Marshall, Rice, UAB, Tulane, SMU, Tulsa, and this weekend Southern Miss. (a ranked team with losses to Marshall and UAB).

UCLA and SMU seem to be their best wins. SMU has 5 losses if i remember correctly and UCLA is 6-6. My point is that we've seen this game before; A high scoring offense that hasn't beat a good team plays a big school in a bcs game. Remember hawaii a few years ago against Matt Stafford and Georgia? It was an absolute embarrassment. I have no problem with small programs playing in a BCS bowl, but they haven't beaten anyone to earn it.

BYU had a pretty strong 4 year stretch before that year with 45 wins. They actually had proven that they could play with the big boys. Houston at this point has not.

actually, i could say they had a strong 5 year stretch with 54 wins.

I'm not debating whether or not Houston deserves it..I really odn't care. I'm saying thats who I want to play if it gives UM the best shot at winning a BCS game. I hope Houston does suck and UM kills them. This is a program building game. I know it sounds weak but ALL I care about is a win, regardless of who or how good the competition is.

good point. Root for Houston to win this weekend or we'll get a tough matchup then.

Not sure who it'd be, but I'm assuming Oklahoma State or Stanford would be high on the list of potential opponents.

Playing Houston is a lose-lose situation. Beat them and it's only a slight victory as they are a small school so the impression it leaves is minimal at best. Lose to them and it leaves the haters too much fodder, doesn't matter that Houston is undefeated because UM would be expected to win. Loosely, it is like playing a MAC or lesser school.

I'd rather have what is considered legit competition from a team like Arkansas, Alabama, Oregon, etc. The only way these guys will go into the off-season more determined is by playing a team like that, win or lose. Beat them, it inspires National Championship dreams. Lose and it lets them have legit perspective as to how much harder they have to work to achieve their dreams.

Better to play a "legit" contender in a non-BCS game than Houston in a BCS game. Right now the only team Houston can beat to raise the overall general impression of their team is LSU, maybe Alabama. JMHO. CFB fans are not to accepting of the perceived lesser schools.

I think I've had enough of games where we prove nothing if we win and it's national news if we lose. We're sucking it up and playing App State again. Isn't that enough?

Yeah, it's almost depressing to think this is what it has come to (wishing for weak opponents) but as I said, UM just NEEDS a win at this point. Next year we can take the next step.

Honestly though I'm hoping this year doesn't fool people into thinking Michigan is better than they are...gonna be tough sledding in some games next year probably..I don't expect another 10 win season, thats for sure.

You beat me to it.

I have a problem with people saying that winning a BCS game is a loss.

It's not the most important thing in the world, but in the long and short run it's much bigger than beating Arkansas in the Outback Bowl.

And there's Alabama in 9 months for those wanting to prove true legitimacy.

This Michigan team losing to an undefeated, top 10 Houston team will not be national news, other than as a sidenote in the discussion of Houston being an unbeaten team without a national title.

Its in no way Lose lose.....A BCS win is a BCS win...ESPECIALLY after the last 3 years. If this was Mike Hart, Chad henne, and Jake Long then maybe it would be looked down on. While no one may consider Michigan a top 5 team in the nation for their BCS win, it will still validate this 10 win season as a major success for a program who only expected 6-8 wins by years end.

You guys are still thinking as if we've won 10 games for the last 10 years..the bowl streak was snapped, UM was drug through the mud and now they have a chance to finally show a sign of turn around. A BCS win in Hokes 1st year is HUUUGGE, I don't care if it's against Syracuse, they had to get there 1st and when they did they capitalized.

playing stanford would be fucking awesome. we would probably lose, but man what a matchup. big time money maker right there.
