On the ESPN standings page it gives Detroit a 97.2% chance of winning the division. Pretty decent odds.

Exactly 2 years ago today....

And the Twins were a good team that went 19-8 the rest of the way.

Neither the White Sox or Indians are a good team.

History is 100% irrelevant when it comes to teams, because the makeup of the teams switches from year to year.

The Tigers are by far the best team in the division, and they will win the division running away.

Except the history lesson here was not about the Twins being good, cause they weren't, it was the Tigers falling apart when it looked like it was locked up.

You want to be optimistic, fine, I'm going to sweat bullets until we are 2 games up with 1 to play or better.

That was the lesson?

You are aware that the Tigers 2nd best month that season was September, aren't you?

Question, if the Tigers didn't have that lead, rather they made a comeback to force and then lose game 163, would you still sweat bullets?

And how were the Twins not good?

They were absolutely a better team than the Tigers that season.

September as a whole was not really the problem, just the last week and a half or so.

And actually not September, since we had a 3 game lead on Sept. 30th.

October 1-3, 3 game lead going in and lost 3 straight.

Do I think we will win, Yes I do.

And I still nervous as heck? Yes I am.

From the stand point that they could win all they wanted, but they still had to pray for us to lose to gain any ground at the end.

If they were so much better there would have been no game 163.

They were as mediocre as the Tigers were.

The Twins did play 0.703 ball to finish the year. That is pretty good IMO

How did they play the rest of the year?

Because in the end they only tied us.

I am leery of Porcello tonight without a real 'out' pitch. carmona is usally wild all over and in and out of the strike zone, but Tigers can be their own worst enemy by swinging at crap low taking themselves out of long innings, walks, and getting a high pitch count on the pitcher.
It would of course be great to get plenty of runs tonight and hold on with mid to late inning bullpen help...
but also tomorrow/wednesday, even with Verlander pitching a 12 noon start, be prepared for a Leyland sunday lineup. Yeah, I know the record is good on that day, just saying that Leyland went on record in the past two days saying some starters will get the day off, which means less bullets in the chamber than usual for a JV start. and masterson goes for them.
If the Tigers lose both, let's not panic, if they split we still gained a game from before the series started, and if they somehow win both bye bye indians.
that f'n krapnis is back tonight.

edit. Leyland said, Dirks, Kelly, Rhymes Santago would all play tomorrow. Masterson tough on Righties.

These standings would be more accurate. You should go on games played instead of date. Date is kind of irrelevant. Still they blew a 5.5 game lead.

But the Twins went 16-4. (4-3 against the tigers, 12-1 against everyone else). Down the stretch, thats pretty good ball.
