All the talk about the Angels now having the best lineup in baseball and now being the favorite in Vegas for the World Series. However when factoring in 1 through 5 in the lineup were at this.

Angels - combined 23.3 WAR
Tigers - combined 25.9 WAR

And when you look further and include your top 4 starting pitchers:

Angels - combined 3.1 WAR
Tigers - combined 17.2 WAR

Hard to really set there and say the Angels are now the favorites to win the World Series just because of the signing of Hamilton.

The bottom of the Tigers lineup is weak. I don't know what kind of pen the Angels have but the Tigers pen looks pretty weak at this point.

6-9 will probably not see much difference between teams. We have to be somewhat better this coming season because 1.) Inge isn't on it and 2.) Raburn isn't on it and 3.) Infante a full year is better than 2011's alternative.

The Angels pen is horrible, worse than the Tigers.

And with the Tigers starters being better and going deeper into games, they'll probably have to rely on their bullpen more.

And the bottom of the Tigers lineup isn't weak, it'll be Infante, Avila, Peralta, and Dirks/platoon partner.

That's actually a solid 6-9.

The Tigers will likely have a top 3 offense in the AL while having the best pitching staff, including both starters and bullpen.

Agree 100%.

This may be true....I can honestly say I have no idea what kind of BP the Agels have. That said...I know that the Tiger's pen isn't very good. I wouldn't call Infante, Avilia, Peralta, etc solid.

Check out all 32 teams 6 through 9 and you'll see them as solid. The best no, better than many - damn straight.

Yeah I actually calculated the projected offensive starters 1 through 9 and the combined numbers are as followed.

Trout - 10.7
Kendrick - 2.7
Hamilton - 3.3
Pujols - 4.6
Trumbo - 2.3
Aybar - 4.0
Morales - 1.9
Callaspo - 3.2
Iannetta - 1.2

Grand Total: 33.9 WAR

Jackson - 5.3
Hunter 5.5
Cabrera - 6.9
Fielder - 4.5
Martinez - 2.9
Peralta - 0.9
Avila - 2.2
Infante - 2.5
Dirks - 2.1

Grand Total: 32.8 WAR

The pitching is where the Tigers have a HUGE advantage when you factor in starters and bullpen and that's not even factoring in what we will likely receive in a trade for Porcello and company.

Its hard to see Trout above 10 again. And defense is added on there, no doubt that have much better defense.

You are probably right....I just don't like any of those guys offensively. Is there a site that allows you to compare that kind of thing? I am sure rebiv could do it!

Everything is relative.

Solid compared to middle of the lineup bats on most teams? No.

Solid compared to other bottom of the order bats? Absolutely...

Even if you just gauge Offensive WAR:

Trout - 8.6
Kendrick - 2.6
Hamilton - 4.4
Pujols - 3.8
Trumbo - 2.6
Aybar - 3.8
Morales - 2.1
Callaspo - 2.6
Iannetta - 1.3

Grand Total: 31.8 OWAR

Jackson - 4.9
Hunter 4.0
Cabrera - 7.5
Fielder - 5.0
Martinez - 3.1
Peralta - 1.1
Avila - 1.7
Infante - 1.7
Dirks - 1.9

Grand Total: 30.9 OWAR

Less than 1.0 WAR behind their lineup.

That's if you value WAR, which I don't. Lol. They're both tough lineups but both teams have unknown in them. Trout hitting as well, Jackson hitting as well, Pujols getting a year old, VMart getting back to form, Peralta and Avila being as consistently bad etc.

The only thing I know for sure is Miggy will rock and Prince will play everyday.

I wouldn't want to face either of those as a pitcher. Maybe I'm being a homer, but our lineup is scarier to me.

Last year was about as bad as you could expect out of both Peralta and Avila at the plate.

There's a solid to see some improvement from both of them.

Avila could very easily be a plus hitter again if his power numbers improve.

I don't expect any more out of either. Peralta is getting up there in age and I think Avila's first year was a fluke. I hope I am wrong about Avila.

Probably was a fluke but somewhere in the middle seems right. And regardless what he did last season, he's one of the better AL C's.

It was a fluke in that Avila is not the next Johnny Bench.

The angels took a huge risk signing Hamilton to that big of deal. He wont hit as many HR's in Anaheim as he did in Texas. He is injury prone and you cant discount his past. The amount of drugs and alcohol he took will have life long lasting effects. I like the make up of our roster better than theirs not only as far as talent but also clubhouse personalities.

Our lineup strikes me as more steady and reliable from game to game. I could definitely see theirs going on a rampage for weeks at a time though.
