Jahvid Best

I partly wonder if he had not flipped up and over to score that TD in college where he suffered that first bad concussion how long be might have lasted in NFL. Difficult to say for certain, but I think that first one really left him more vulnerable to future ones than what might have been norm.

I wonder what are team would look like if we spent #1 draft picks on football players and not mush brain cheerleaders.

I wonder what the board would look like if we didn't have consistently negative posters like you. And Best wasn't our first pick of the draft, Suh was. We used a 2nd, 4th, and a 7th round pick to get back into the first round. What #1 draft picks have we spent on "mush brain cheerleaders"?

That puts it more into perspective. 2nd, 4th, an 7th round picks in Mayhew's hands tend to be out of the league in a year or two anyways. So there is your answer Hughes, it's a wash.

I meant rd 1 pick...thanks for reminding me we that we lost a 1 2 4 7 the second we picked best...and how are these FACTS being turned into me being negative. We wasted a bunch of picks....best is a mush brain.....theres not really anyway to be positive about that is there???

We didn't lose a 1st round pick for Best. We lost a 2,4,7. Big difference.

Your original statement was "I wonder what are team would look like if we spent #1 draft picks on football players and not mush brain cheerleaders." You implied that we've drafted multiple "mush brain cheerleaders." Plus, calling Best a "mush brain cheerleader" is not a fact, it's your negative classification for him. I could call him a guy who came out of college as a very talented running back, and that'd be just as true as your statement.

It's not the facts that you point out that bother some of us, it's how you phrase facts so negatively.

He always messes up the facts, ususally his opinion is about right but he uses crappy stats to back it, it was a 2 4 7 for a 1 4. really good trade but bad pick.

Talking about anyone as a "mush brain" is ignorant... The guy put his life on the line for our entertainment and walked away from the game before he seriously injured himself for the long term or died. I'm also upset we "wasted" a pick on him, but you and I both know we are PUMPED when Best was out there producing.... Now you call him a mush brain cheerleader like he had anything to do with it and is probably crushed that he will never play again.. The guy is still a human being and doesn't deserve to be called a mush brain cheerleader. You and you're other buddy who I shall not name are the most negative people I have ever encountered in my entire life and put a negative spin on anything and everything.

ok. Lets look at a comparison. Id say LaMichael James was a better version of jahvid Best in college. He was by far a better college player. He was taken at the end of the 2nd round and is almost solely used as a kick returner.

ok...now us. We chose a worse player and trade up into the first round to get him. Hes coming off a serious head injury....which never really goes away. Therefor we wasted a round 1 pick. we traded the 2 4 and 7 to get him. So imo we wasted those as well.

He has a head injury that he can never play football again because of.....imo that's a good description of someone with a mush brain.

kmd is very emo tonight....

Nah. I just totally agree with lg and dislike the uncalled for hate for a guy who did nothing but entertain you while putting his life on the line.

never said I hated him. I hated the pick. I hate our gm because he makes dumb picks like that. I never hated jahvid....its not his fault our franchise is run by a bunch of idiots.

I hear you... Your original mush head cheerleader comment just upset me. I too have concussion problems and had to quit football at a young age and it killed me. So I couldn't imagine having to walk away from millions of dollars, fame, and the career that he loves. I think we should have cleared out he whole front office and just hired Xanders and GM and let him do as he saw fit.

sorry it struck a nerve....I had my fair share of concussions playing ball.....for sure im more "lose" with my tone when its a professional who ive never met and will never meet....not to mention its a message board where overall my tone is much more hostile than in every day life. Doesn't make it right...I get that....but just so you know I wouldn't talk shit about that to you....

Well I do appreciate that and do think more of you than to think that you would do that. And to tell you the truth your tone about sports/Lions reminds me of my best friend to a t. And I hate the hell out of him as well.

Again, like KMD said, you're stating the facts wrong. The Lions gave up their picks from the 2nd, 4th, and 7th round for Best. The Lions received a 1st (picked Best) and 4th. They just swapped 4ths and gave up the 7th round pick to move up a few spots to take Best. It was very good trade value.

Also, last time I checked LaMichael James hasn't done anything in the NFL. He has 184 career rushing yards. Best made a big difference for us when he played. He was the big reason we made the playoffs in 2011. I don't have a big problem with you saying it was a bad pick by Mayhew since it didn't work out, but I'm just tired of you constantly bashing and name-calling players like Best.

We didn't trade away all those picks. We swapped a 4th for a later 4th,lost a 7th and turned an early 2nd into a late 1st. It was a good trade draft pick value wise in Detroit really only losing an additional 7th on top of using the 1st.

Get it right hughes. Stop exaggerating that we lost 3 picks. We lost oneadditinal (a 7th) and used the 1st to get him. That was the proper value for him. late 1st. He was a great talent and the Lions really needed an explosive RB at the time. Bashing Mayhew in hindsight is dumb. He played 21 games concussion free and helped the Lions to their only playoff berth in forever.
