Jim Schwartz: Staffords mechanics are outstanding!!

I agree with letting Stafford do what is comfortable is probably the way to go, but Stafford dropping his elbow and having balls sail consistently should not be seen as outstanding, but a missed opportunity due to HORRIBLE mechanics. Actually shocked by this article, and think it shows how unprofessional the Lions coaching staff is. Do they actually work with their players during practice or do they just sit on the sidelines and enjoy a scrimmage?

his feet are fucking horrid. his pocket awareness and movement within the pocket are horrid. has a top 5 arm.

Stafford gets out of jams sometimes with the sidearm. But he definitely needs work on his mechanics and pocket presence

Seems like an after effect of his first two seasons, like he can't focus on his delivery for trying to make sure he's not in a DE's line of fire or something. Weird. I just hope whatever delivery he sticks with, that it's accurate.

Its not the occassional sidearm throw that worries me, its the wide open receiver he is missing by 10 yards because hes dropping his elbow. Yes, his footwork is the worst in the league by far. He just has clumsy feet in general. For a coach to go on record saying that his mechanics are anything more than inconsistent shows us that that we have the wrong coaches managing/teaching this team. Honestly mind boggling that Schwartz would even answer or comment on this subject.

It's kinda obvious he's got bad mechanics but I don't think its always on accident. Almost like he's trying to throw it quickly to hit the open windows which would close before he can fully set his feet. Problem is he's erratic and launches an occasional ball into nowhere.

People weren't complaining last year because of his side arm throws.

Maybe if he used proper mechanics more often he would be more effective. Right now he is playing like a below average QB.....60% completion rate and less than 7 yards per attempt. That is not getting it done.

Stafford isn't the problem on this team. When are you buffoons going to realize this?

Exactly. He is the least of the problem. The talent is not very good. Same issues as last year and a horrible special teams. Poor drafting is rearing it's ugly head. Pettigrew took major steps backward, never seen a guy drop so many perfectly thrown balls. Defensive scheme is a little suspect as well in my opinion. Injuries don't help either but all teams have them so no excuse there. If Andy Reid became available, I would snag him in a second. That guy is a heck of a coach. Philly fans don't know what they have until they don't have it.

Missing wide open receivers by ten yards isnt a problem? Its not like hes leading his receiver too much, theyre 10 feet over the receivers head, or behind them. If the Lions were stacked at the receiver position I think you would be singing a different tune. Im not saying to bench the kid or that hes anything close to a mediocre QB, but that these issues are probably what held him out of being mentioned in the top tier of QBs this year

He's completing 60% of his passes and has over 4k passing already. He's not the problem. Even less INT than last year. His TD passes is the only think he's really lacking and that could mean many reasons.

There are many problems with this team. All I was saying is he could be better and maybe if he and his coaching staff would consider fixing his mechanics he could become a much more efficient QB. He does have some good numbers but overall they are not top 10....they are middle of the road.

Set to break the pass attempts record too, so of course the yards are going to look good. Hes just not even close to as sharp as he was last year imo.

60% is 60%, 10 passes or 1000 passes, its 60%, which is fine for a QB. He's still 84 PA from last years numbers so they won't be that different. And did you really think he was going to go 5k again? Int. totals are good. The only difference is Tds.

Is he as good as last year, no. But to say hes not close to as sharp is just idiotic.

Andi think as others have pointed out its about expectations. Last year I think we would have all been thrilled if Staff hd a 60% completion rate and threw for 4000 yards. Well this year he does and will get close to 5k again but because we're 4-11 we say he's having a bad year. And his throwing mechanic was the same as last year and no one complained about it.

Blame the D who can't stop anyone the last two minutes, blame the OC who plays it safe late in games and blame the ST who lost 2 games for us
