Apparently, Gary Schultz, one of the two guys JoePa and the GA reported to, one of the two guys accused of perjury, was the head of the University Police Dept.

Well...I saw the assertions that Shultz was head of campus police, and a quick google search got hits, but a little more googling turned up the following:

"Schultz served as senior vice president for finance and business from 1995 until his retirement and led the division that includes the offices of Human Resources, Physical Plant, University Police, Investment Management, Auxiliary and Business Services, Corporate Controller, University Budget, Legal Services and Commonwealth Campus Business Operations."

Sorry, but the more I read about this, the more I think Joe Paterno needs to step down. The nonchalance that this was handled with is absolutely disgusting. Joe Pa will not survive this and he shouldn't.

He might not last the season.

Looks like he may not have the choice to step down.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Penn State administrators on Tuesday canceled Joe Paterno's weekly news conference in which he was expected to field questions about a sex-abuse scandal involving former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky.

Soon after, The New York Times reported that Penn State's board of trustees has had discussions about how to manage the 84-year-old Paterno's departure. The newspaper, citing "two people briefed on conversations among the university's top officials," said that Paterno's exit could come within days or weeks

This is truly truly sad. I've always been a fan of Joe Pa, but this is such a disgusting case and there is no way that Paterno acted responsibly or morally given what has come out. It also appears that they are protecting Joe Pa and we may never know his full knowledge.

This case is going to explode and I think they should ask him to step down immediately given the circumstances. I just cant imagine that the Penn State fan base could root for Paterno after this. The gravity of this is beyond the pale, just incredible that College Footballs most famous and maybe greatest coach of all time will be taken down by something this sick is just beyond belief. The University needs to act decisively now considering that they dropped the ball on several levels in the past and it likely allowed more children to be harmed.

Paterno did the wrong thing. The 28 year old what's his name definitely did the wrong thing. Hope they all get their ass kicked.

WOW, JoPa could be gone. Well, not sure what he has done the last couple years anyway. The guy was a great coach, but he has lost it. I think it has just been a publicity thing for PSU to keep him around. Now it could be bad publicity and a hit the road Joe comeing from the Admin.

That was my initial reaction. It's still how I feel. I just know that the info that comes out in the first day (or week, or sometimes months) of a story sometimes get it all wrong and I would love for some vindicating details to emerge. I hate to think that JoePa could do this.

I can not understand how the coach who witnessed the assault did nothing. How on earth can you see a 10 year old boy being rapped in a shower and not save that poor child. I promise you this if that were me they would have had to call the police after but only because I would have beaten the hell out of that old man. To just walk out like you didnt see what you saw then not call the police but to just tell JoPa and go to work the next day with the sleaze ball. You have a moral obligation to save that poor child and speak up for him and tell anyone and everyone that will listen. I believe he should be charged with not reporting it to the police. Short of joining in on the act he did the worst thing possible.

That being said I do believe JoPa should step down. Although he didnt do anything criminal he didnt do everything he should have. And although they keep saying well we told him not to bring children to the main campus he still had a parking spot and was on campus last week. Also he was allowed to run football camps for young children on satalite campuses in the area. How many poor children were victimized over and over just because no one stepped in to report what they saw.

And Paterno didn't follow up on in? You tell your boss, the wrong thing, but you don't follow up. Those campus police should get their ass fired as well.

Yeah, that GA, reportedly a coach now, should be done. The law may not apply to him, but it should.

I am sad and disgusted. I always thought a lot of Joe as a coach. Seeing him run on to the field is one of my greatest memories of College football. He is already involved to much, either because he was involved or because he is the head coach. Regardless its bad for him, and people will remember him by this. Its not like he has a lot of time left to recover some such a horrific circumstance.

I just skimmed through the report. I feel sick. Sandusky is a monster. There is no way in hell there are only 8 victims. He was not just fondling children, he was overpowering young children and raping them. This sick fuck would simply get a child alone in the shower and then jump on them and hold them down while he raped them. He used his power to scare people into silence and he used his position to bribe kids to comply and keep quiet.

He was doing this using Penn State as a tool. I'm sorry, but they had to know more and Joe Paterno had to know more. Paterno was letting this sicko bring children to his practices after he had already been told that Sandusky was seen raping a child in the team showers. Paterno allowed Sandusky to continue to use Penn State football as a tool to brutalize young children.

I don't recommend reading the report, but if you do, my god! Sandusky is not even human. Joe Paterno is a disgusting human being as well. I hope Sandusky rots in hell and I hope Paterno retires in shame and is forever known as someone who turned a blind eye and helped enable a serial child rapist. Fuck Sandusky and Fuck all of those who covered it up including Joe Paterno!

I am not reading the report. Bad things would happen, and these people will already get whats coming to them.

But how did this just blow up now? Hasn't this nut been on the loose for 14 years now?

JoePa is done, calling it right now. He won't last the week.

When people get wind of what is in that report like they are beginning to, he will be finished. I personally think it will be tomorrow, Thursday at the latest.

What do you think Paterno meant by "scores of professionals"?

"If this is true we were all fooled, along with scores of professionals trained in such things, and we grieve for the victims and their families."

guessing he's trying to excuse their failure to detect and report on the allegations.

If even professional... uh... child abuse detectors (?) couldn't catch Sandusky, how could expect the Penn St coaching staff and Athletic Dept to handle it? It wasn't like they caught him in the act or anything. Oh wait...
