Just a thought on Hoke's situation.

Ok, asshat.

How about you provide us a list of "hailhail approved" coaching candidates for us to discuss.

Or explain how Brady Hoke is a better football coach than Greg Schiano.

Look, I'm with you. I'm hoping for the pie-in-the-sky Jim Harbaugh or John Harbaugh hiring.

As for Schiano, dude was linked to the UM job in '08, apparently came pretty fucking close at worst to being offered it, and took the turnaround job he did at Rutgers and parlayed it into an NFL head coaching gig. He's unemployed right now and rumblings are he's not going to become a Gruden or Cowher and stay as a studio guy. So why the fuck aren't we allowed to toss his name around, except that it bunches your panties? And Les Miles?! If you're telling me you'd rather have Brady Hoke coaching UM in 2015 than Les Miles, I'll run through my rolodex of profane insults and likely struggle with which one to choose.

If UM fired Brady Hoke on 12/1 and after getting solid word that Miles and both Harbaughs aren't interested hired Greg Schiano to be Michigan's head coach on 12/15, I'd sign up for that in a heartbeat. Would I put him ahead of some other names (Mark Stoops, Chuck Martin, Butch Jones), I'm not sure, but would lean yes. Schiano did a hell of a job at a traditional loser of a school, and made something pretty damn nice out of it. If you look at perennial losers in college football, I don't see anyone taking UNLV, or Tulane, or North Texas, or New Mexico State from the hell they're in to national rankings and then getting an NFL head coaching job from it.

Good thing our choices aren't limited to pie-in-the-sky and dickheads huh? There's a lot of in between there. I'm pretty confident there are more than a handful of qualified coaches out there that would at least consider taking the job.

And for the record, I'm pretty solidly in the camp that Brady's had his time and has mostly shown he's not qualified to do the job at an excellent level. As unlikely as it is, if he won out I could be convinced he deserves another year (reluctantly), but I don't see that happening.

Yeah, who wants Brian Kelly? Guy is 215-73. He's a bum.

Even a shittier version of Kelly is better than the dude running around clapping on the sidelines for the Maize.

I honestly think the win over Indiana is warping people and convincing them that this guy can actually recover and be a good coach.

Why is Kelly's record at all relevant to Schiano's (lack of) success? The two are comparatively slimy but one (Kelly) is a much better football coach than the other (Schiano).

Like, the Les stuff I KINDA get. He's been successful at the highest level, and he's always been tied to Michigan. The best thing you can say about Schiano is he made a bad football program "relevant" in a really bad conference.

Nobody knows if he was offered the job or not. He was interviewed, and then said in public that he didn't want the job.

Michigan haters have always insisted that he turned Michigan down - but the truth is nobody knows.

Okay...Bill Martin knows, Schiano knows, and a few others probably know.

But in the generally accepted meaning of the idiom "nobody knows," nobody knows.

This.
Everyone thinks because we interviewed someone it was offered

I only wish that happened when I interview. Lol

(Been unemployed since Feb 1)

I am sure interim AD is starting to get advice in potential candidates

There ain't nothing wrong with funemployment Michlady!

Oh if I didn't need money I'd never go back to work

Already dreading it but checkbook is screaming

Gulo, if you want to find a "good coach" who's respectful, clean, all that stuff, then you can go ahead and take Miles and Jim Harbaugh off the search. Miles has a history, Harbaugh rubs people the wrong way and will want total control. Go ahead and search through the rubble beyond those two to find your next guy. Or, just stick with who you got now.

It's college football. You can dig up dirt on a ton of the top tier programs and coaches.

Not that I'm getting my hope's up about Harbaugh, but I never said he had to be a nice guy. Don't confuse demeanor with ethics. I don't care if he's an ass, as long as he's an ethical ass with his motives in the right place.

man, I am glad dubbs has no power to influence anything like this in real life.

and I suppose, no power even on this board, since no one ever agrees with him.

his posts are like chewing gum on the sidewalk.

Go make fun of a guy who helped someone who had no chance of walking, walk again.

You are about as classy as that chewing gum on the sidewalk.

Gulo, fair enough.

Harbaugh would be the home run hire. I actually am okay with Pat Fitzgerald myself, for whatever reason I think he seems to fit the whole philosophy and he's made Northwestern somewhat relevant. And like I said prior, the unknown is better than the known at this point. There's absolutely no way to determine how a coach will mesh with this program. But we do know how the current regime is meshing. They aren't.

to counter that, here's a pointless hit piece on Schiano... he cooks his bacon in a big pile like some kind of idiot.

I wish some of you would stop tossing his name around like dumping Hoke for him would be a sure bet.

there's a >50% probability we would get worse as the players react negatively to his awful personality, and then we'd have to listen to three years of you dumbasses arguing about why everything is still Hoke's fault, and "Schiano needs time to get his guys in there," and bla bla bla...

EDIT: haha, the article i posted is just a piece making fun of the article ML posted.

Agree. Have not heard good things about him as person
Was just posting pr at work.

I think it is a pretty sure bet that if they beat either MD or NU, and win in Columbus, Hoke will get another year, unless they look really really bad in their bowl game. I understand that it is a long shot that they will beat ohio*. Maybe just as big a long shot as getting one of the Harbaughs or Les.

I don't think Miles is a long shot. It's been pretty widely known that he has wanted to coach at Michigan. There were inner workings that led to RR, and then Hoke being hired and he didn't even get a shot to interview.

A new AD who is willing to give a wide range of coaches a shot, combined with a guy who is starting to wear out his welcome at LSU might be the right mix to bring him to A2.

Going 6-6, regardless if they beat OSU, won't be enough to save Hoke's job, IMO. Things have been an absolute mess.

I "toss his name around" as a potential candidate to replace Brady Hoke, as he's a better head football coach.

Of course he is. He took a team that had absolutely zero direction and gave them life. Brady Hoke took a team with a proud history and incredible recruiting name and made them garbage.

I can't believe you guys think this team can beat OSU. You guys are nuts!

Hungry, the win over Indiana has honestly warped a lot of minds around here. Suddenly Hoke can save his job and they can compete with OSU.
