The kid is tough as nails and he deserves better. He was averaging around 18 and 7 pre UNC and shooting over 50% from three.

His personal draft stock is non existentn he was playing like an all american pg and was the consensus btpoy, now he's just a below average pg.

He'll also go down as the first 4yr player under izzo not to go to a final four

I don't care if they get blown out against Iowa, I just hope that he gets one of the best standing ovations in recent years. Although he may never reach the final four he worked his tail of his 4 years in the program and it's really unfortunate that an injury will make his senior year a disappointment.

He may not make it to the nba but he'll play for a very good club in Europe making a lot of money.

He could have made the nba if he was healthy this year. If you remember the Kentucky game, he was up against lottery picks and just got whatever he wanted, it was almost too easy

...or you could look at all the great things that he's had. A free 4 year education at a big University and many contacts to open doors for his future. I'm sure the other kids that grew up on his block would be pretty happy on what he's had.

Besides, I'm not ready for a eulogy with a few weeks to go in the season. Good things could still happen.

I know good things could happen but time is really running out.

Appling worked his ass off all summer and his shot and floor game were great early on. He deserves better than thisn getting his degree is nice but thats the same reward that russell byrd and alex gauna will get, I think appling deserved a little better than that.

If he's good enough, he could still make it to "the league". That final four streak has to come to an end eventually and if it is this year real fans of this program know what kind of player and hard worker he was during his 4 years. I personally wouldn't put him as the reason.

Of all of the injuries his was the most damaging.

I think the most damaging thing is that Izzo is putting Appling ahead of the team success. He shouldn't be playing right now.

Isn't it just the opposite? Putting the team's success ahead of Appling. If he gave Appling a chance to recover instead of playing him in every game but one. Depending when he gave him rest, he could be back and playing like he was early on

He will be a Euro leaguer when he is truly healthy. While the recent injury has hindered his draft stock making $300,000 a year and living in Europe isnt dog food.

How is that the opposite of what I said?

You said he's putting Appling ahead of the teams success but he's doing the opposite - by playing Keith when he should be resting him he is putting the team's success ahead of Appling.

So you think Appling playing is helping the team right now? He's playing because he said he's fine and Izzo won't bench him on his own.

THAT is putting Appling ahead of the team.

No, I don't think that and I've been arguing that for two weeks saying he should have sat him and kept him out until he recovered but everyone else on this forum has been saying that he can't rest Appling because he needs him to win now and resting him would screw up team chemistry. nobody ever said anything about it being Keith's choice. He's the coach, you think he's not benching Appling because Appling says he's fine? He got hurt right in the middle of Harris' injury, then Trice has the concussion and his alternative is a true freshman. Then Payne and Dawson go down for 7 games or more, overlapping for 3 of them. Appling was his only option to have experience on the floor so he played him knowing he was hurt. Maybe Appling played the tough guy and sucked it up, but If we can see he's playing hurt, what do you think Izzo sees? That is putting the team ahead of Appling and it's the opposite of what you said.

Who the hell is everyone? The post that started all of this was me saying that Appling SHOULDN'T be playing. You clearly don't understand my comment.

Everyone is all the people in previous threads where this topic has been discussed. The consensus has been that we need Appling to win and that resting him and bringing him back later was too big of a risk to team chemistry. And I'm on record disagreeing with it. That was in response to you asking me if I thought playing Appling was helping the team. A stupid question given the context of my post, but what's new.

What's not to understand about your comment? You said Izzo is playing Appling for Appling's sake - putting him ahead of the team. Clearly he's not - it's obvious he felt he needed Appling to play injured because of all the other injuries. How is constantly aggravating an injury, negatively impacting a title run AND killing Appling's draft stock putting Appling ahead of the team? That logic is completely asinine.

Well after the Nebraska loss Izzo suggested not playing Appling the rest of the regular season. The next day Keith came out and said ?I have five Big Ten games left in my final go-round as a Spartan and I plan on playing in all five of them.?

Do the math

Also, the only thread that I saw you mention anything about sitting Appling was the day after the Michigan game in the Can we salvage the season thread. 2 posters commented on it....hardly everybody. By the way, Johnny and myself mentioned sitting him the day before in the game thread for what it's worth.
