Keep Austin dump Caldwell

No way they dump Caldwell after a year especially a team that's 10-4.

Still not going to dumb a HC after a so far 10-4 season for a never been a HC guy. Ain't happening here..

I highly doubt teams a going to be busting down the door to hire a guy as their Head coach that has been a Dcord for one year in the NFL. Prior to that he was a DB coach.

He may get an interview since he is black, but I would be shocked if he found a head coaching job.

He could be a great head coach, might be a fantastic interview, but it's just very rare to move up that fast, especially if he wants to stay in the NfL.

Most of those wins are Austins.

What you just said is like saying that the Patriots should have kept Charlie Weiss and fired Bill Bellicek because most of the wins are on account of that offense they had. Or Josh Mcdaniels for that matter.

Or the colts should have fired Dungy and promoted their OCs back when Payton Manning's offense was the best in football and the defense sucked donkey dick.

How quickly Austin transformed this defense is just amazing to me. Keeping him around is key, and I hope the Lions do everything in their power to do so.

Not to take anything away from the guy, but we had a pretty damn good rush D last year, too. The growth of Slay and Ansah may or may not have something to do with Austin, but I think they are the two main guys who have turned the pass D around. I don't really know how much credit Austin deserves for that, but I am glad to see him instead of what we've had in the past.

Give it another year or two and see if he continues to shine.

Nope. Have to praise Lombardi too. His offense makes it so we don't turn the ball over so much, and keeps the defense fresh. Fresh defense plays better, we win more games.

Except for dungy and bellichek had good coaching resumes in previous stops. Caldwell has an awful college record, was an offensive coordinator years after peyton was successful and was even in danger of being fired when we hired him. He has good leadership skills but I think he needs very good coordinators to consistently win. Caldwell has no defensive background and I don't think a say and slay are the reason for our defensive turnaround. No doubt we always had talent on defense but they still have up 25 ppg most of the time. Cmon man it's obviously austin, huge jump to number 1 defense.

What has caldwell done for this team exactly? Were still one of the highest penalized teamd and our offense has shit the bed. He was supposed to bring a more diciplined team and better suuport for stafford. Hes done neither. ..

We are 12th in penalties (last year 9th). Some of the really good teams get a lot of penalties. Seattle is number 1, Denver is 2 and the Patriots are 5th. We only have 1 personal foul penalty this year.

What's really confusing is the fact that our one man offense of throw it to calvin again and again was way more prdouctive than an offense will a LOT more talent. Including another very productive reciever to the best WR in the game shouldn't equal offenses on par with the vikings, St. Louis, jets, ect.

If the offense actually sustained alot of long drives you might have a point.

If we lose austin and suh it will be all downhill again next year..gawd I hope they can at least win a playoff game this year before it all goes to hell again

We're 5th in time of possession with 32 minutes per game. Pitt is 1st with 33 minutes per game. Philly is last...no surprise. I can't find a stat that shows average length per possession. Not sure if that would tell the story though. A team that runs the ball more could have a higher TOP compared to a team that throws more, etc.

K, maybe I should've worded it differently. Those long(time consuming) drives must lead to points. More than 18 or 15 that this piss poor offense scores per game. That in my opinion, would help the defense out more than an extra minute taken off of the clock with normally 0-3 points put on the board.

Love what Austin is doing with the defense, especially with disguising coverages and making the most out of the talent we have.

Flags happen, and as another poster pointed out, we have far fewer personal fouls this year. We have won a bunch of close games, and as much as our defense deserves credit for that, I have to credit Caldwell for keeping this team focused, calm, and confident of their ability to win those close games.

We'll see, but so far I am pleased with Caldwell. I agree we have to do as much as we can to keep Austin around as D-Coordinator for the foreseeable future.

Caldwell has made dumb decisions in atleast 2 very close games that should have cost them but miraculously didn't. rumors that his clock/game management isn't up to par seem to be true.

Is this thread a joke? Yes he had some bad late game management in a couple games, but there is a better chance of the Raiders winning the Super Bowl this year than Caldwell getting canned. 0% chance he gets fired, and nor should he.
