I'm not saying I agree with it, just that that's the way it is.

Cabrera got robbed in 2010 for the same reason, even though Hamilton missed 30 games.
Kaline lost a couple to a couple yanks that had far worse numbers too.

1955 lost to Yogi, even though Kaline led the league in batting average, hits, total bases, and top 5 in hr's rbi and ops.

1963 lost to elston howard 2nd in batting, and iirc rbi and/or hr's.

Both years Kaline was voted the Sporting News AL Player of the year, which at the time and for many years after was a prestigeious award.

Both years deserved, but it went to a player on the first place team,
