La russa retires

EXCELLENT MOVE! What a great way to go out. your team plays their ass off to squeak into the playoffs, and then you shock the world for a title.....Way to go out on top after a cinderella season. No Adam Wainwright...no problem. Good for Tony L.

I think it's ideal as well because it's not like he has a super team where the chances of them repeating are great (like Phil Jackson has)...he won't be left with any "I wonder if I coulda got another one."...

Wonder if he was asked to step down.

A lot was made out of him not having any clue which pitcher was on the mound in game 5, that was a huge embarrassment to the organization.

And not the first involving LaRussa, which his DUI's, and being the guy most involved with McGwire and Canseco.

Either way, it was time for him to step down, might as well go out with people kissing your ass.

I don't think so. Who asks to step down after winning a title? GM has to have balls for that.

He'll prob have time for a haircut now. BTW, it was none other than Hawk Harrleson that fired him, as GM of the White Sox. What a joke!

Talking about haircuts, Tom Brady got his mess cut. I noticed. His hair was turrible.

Johnny Keane quit after the Cardinals won in '64. He had actually resigned in his own mind in September. Al McNeil got fired after the '71 Canadiens won the Stanley Cup. He was not French enough.

Scotty Bowman stepped down after the Wings won in what, 04?

If LaRussa was asked to turn in his gloves and self-tinted glasses, we'll never know.

Think his locks have been gone for 2 or 3 weeks. Think he got it cut after the Buffalo loss.

Was LaRussa asked to step down? If so, I missed that. But I seriously doubt that. If you take a fairly mediocre team all the way....It's all on the manager. You don't get asked to step down. You are asked how much more $ do you want.

You're assuming that it would be the GM who asked him, I would think it might have been the owner.
