La'el Collins

Wow, I was just talking about why I wouldn't want him in the "Who DON'T you want" thread.

I feel for this kid. It's pretty likely from everything we've heard that he has nothing to do with this murder, but he's going to pay a pretty extreme financial price for it.

It's a smart move to try and go to the supplemental draft. Can't really hurt your draft stock from where you are now, but you might be fully cleared by then, and go much higher. Probably not higher than a 2nd rounder now, but higher.

Problem is, the rules on the supplemental draft don't allow for it. He's fully eligible for the actual draft, so Goodell is going to say no, as he should. You don't get to break the rules just to make more money.

I'd be happy if the Lions took him in the late rounds in the hopes he gets cleared. The guy would be a steal in the 5th, and it sounds like teams are saying not in any round.

I could see teams just wanting to avoid the distraction. Not a good feel good story right now.

1st round talent in the 5th round? I say absolutely

First round talent who may never see the outside of a jail after a trial. Or might be exonerated at 8 p.m. tonight. It's a gamble. Bet a lot of GMs are scrambling for info right about now.

Extenuating circumstances...NFL would do this kid a solid by allowing him into the supplemental draft. Just my opinion.

What happened with him? Heard something about a murder.

Let me guess it's one of two scenarios:

1) Was at a club, getting drunk and a fight broke out and someone got shot.
2) A wife/girlfriend/ex-girlfriend was either beaten up or killed and he is linked to the crime.

Haven't seen anything about it, but im 95% sure its one of those two things.

If the guy is truly innocent then he's getting fucked..ex getting murdered at the wrong time. Can't blame the teams though but damn..

Ex got murdered, police say he's not a suspect.

Close enough. Sucks for him though. Id take him in the 2nd or 3rd if he falls to be honest. Value is value

If we got him in one of those rounds plus say Malcom Brown in the 1st with a RB in the 3rd or something. Nice draft by me.

You weren't close at all, lol.

From what has been said so far....

There was a knock on his ex-girlfriends door. People at the scene said someone at the door wanted to borrow her car and she said no. An argument ensued, and shots were fired. She was killed instantly, and police safely delivered her baby at the scene.

It now looks like the baby may be La'els, and it seems as though he didn't know he was about to be a father. Friends have said they broke up when he found out she was cheating on him, and told him the baby was not his. DNA says otherwise.

He was in Chicago for all the pre-draft festivities they put on for these kids. Unlikely he had anything to do with it, but police feel he may have information that can lead them to the killer.

But of course, everyone is thinking Rae Carruth at this point. Dude found out he was going to be a daddy right before he becomes a first round pick, doesn't want to pay the child support, and has some dude do her ugly while he's out of town with an alibi.

Sure, I suppose there's a story there... but nothing connecting him to this at all, including her family saying she had not told La'el it was his baby.

Didn't know the DNA test was complete already...thought that was going to be next week, post-draft.

Jeez forgot about Carruth...

Man, that kinda soured my mood. Time to think happy thoughts lol

youre about to make millions of dollars.....child support is going to sway you to go kill your ex girlfriend. Not likely. I mean people have done crazier shit for less....but that motive just seems odd to me.

Thats what the supposed motive was for Carruth, so it's happened. But again, the public always rushes to some kind of crazy motive to try and make a guy look guilty.

People love a train wreck. The more miserable a celebrity is, the better your life is I guess? I dunno.

If he is innocent, the fact he went UNDRAFTED after being a R1 potential pick could open the door to a lawsuit by him vs NFL. If he is innocent, he deserved to be selected and paid according to his slot. He should be allowed to sign with a team at the average pay for 2015 R1 rookie IMO, again if he is innocent.

I get that teams have the right to not pick him, but it smacks of collusion and unjustified treatment of an innocent person.
