Late Game 86 Tigers @ blue jays July 2 2018

Bittersweet win and split...Jimenez overused, but they ain't got much else worthy of setup or closer, esp with Greene on DL.

Despite Ron Aliva's best efforts Tigers win in extras 3-2 and have now won 2 in a ROW!

DET

13-9 .591 WPCT vs LH Starters

25-39 .391 WPCT vs RH Starters

I'm officially on board as rooting for losses.

Tigers are 7th worst in run diff, and thats where I see them picking next year, unless they can/will trade a couple of players @ the deadline this month. I won't ever root for them to lose, unless its for the first pick, and the Orioles look to have a lock on that so far. The AL East is much better than the Central.

Postgame notes

Greiner down Jim Adduci coming up for the short NL set starting tomorrow to provide an extra LH bat, Duce! I like Duce he's been playing 1st base apparently with the muds so who knows could see him just stay with the club and let Hicks go back to C more.

Friers said he wanted to pitch the 9th but told Gardenhire he didn't want to be taken out if someone got on base. Gardenhire said I don't want to have to argue with you on the mound you in or out, do what you gotta do if I go back out I want to stay out there. What are you talking about so you're out then? do what you gotta do. LOL gessh sigh..whatever dorks...

Keats, we're just going to enjoy life we won. Sounds good!

oh and IMO baseball needs a rule change here if a RP blows a save he shouldn't then get the win, In this case, the guy that comes in later and gets the save should also get the win, Win, and Save. Who's with me

I don't know how anyone can do that. All it does is that 4-5 years from now your high draft pick might be good. I always remember Matt Anderson.

or you can get the #2 pick and take JV

This team sucks. I would rather have a top 3 pick than 8 or 9. The results of these games are meaningless.

Or the games they go in with a 3 run lead and give up 2 after 4 base hits and a walk but get the save? Yeah, okay ;-).

No guarantee you take a JV. For every JV there's 20 Matt Andersen's. As far as meaningless, maybe for you. How about those 20,000 people at each game - or the ones watching on TV or listening on the radio or on the web.

Tigers Select Jim Adduci.
MLBTR

The Tigers announced following today?s game that first baseman/outfielder Jim Adduci will have his contract selected from Triple-A Toledo.

Young catcher Grayson Greiner is being optioned to Toledo in his place,

and the Tigers are shifting Miguel Cabrera from the 10-day DL to the 60-day DL in order to open up a roster spot.
Cabrera underwent season-ending surgery on a ruptured biceps tendon earlier this summer.

the results of the games are still meaningless.

there are a lot of things in baseball that don't make sense. I always laugh that if a pitcher has the error it still doesn't count against his ERA. He was the person who is responsible...he made the pitch AND the error!

The issue with Matt Anderson, is only the Tigers would have taken a relief pitcher as #1. J.D. Drew and Troy Glaus were the next 2 picks. Either of those, while not HoF caliber were good players that would have helped the Tigers.

Like any draft, each team does good or bad at evaluating talent. The Tigers historically have not done well at drafting players. And the same people (David Chadd). Let's see:

https://www.blessyouboys.com/2013/6/5/4399532/the-2013-draft-a-david-chadd-retrospective

Problem is, while teams like HOU, TBR, SDP, even NYY do well drafting...teams like DET or BAL do really poorly at drafting, even when given high picks.

In short, it wouldn't pay for DET to tank, because they wouldn't know how to monopolize on it if they did.

I see no reason why Gardy couldn't leave him in for the whole inning. Especially if he gives up a hit. Too many times a pitcher dominates and 1-baserunner later and they yank him. SP should get a chance to work out of their own jam now and again.
