Leshoure "on schedule"

Damn it, been too long since I've seen it I got mixed up. Thanks Mitch, I think you're a Righteous Dude. ;)

Is there really any way to measure the rate of recovery from a torn achilles, since the degree of its severity was never disclosed?

On schedule as compared to whom?

Professional football players who as power RBs would need to dig in and try to bull their way through the often stacked LOS...or just what some average Joe Schmoe who tore his achilles while running, jogging, or working out at the gym, or maybe while moving heavy furniture into or out of a truck would expect to be at?

???

We'll know how "far along" he is on draft day I think. There was a story with Best too and he said he's good to go and will be ready, but how long until he gets another?

On schedule most likely means...it looks like it's healing well, he's not hurting and he didn't do anything else to aggravate it. Basically it's like saying so far so good. Like you guys said, it means nothing until he plays and can do the things he needs to do on the field.

After Barry quit he said we won't have another good running back for 50 years.

Yeah, it was interesting all right, but as a biased Lions fan blogger, TLIW is of course going to be as optimistic as possible about Leshoure's potential to completely recover from his injury, basically relying entirely upon counting on Mikel's youth and the lack of any NFL "mileage" as an RB on his legs, to base it on.

Which simply means to me that TLIW really doesn't know "Jack Squat" about whether or not Leshoure will ever set foot upon an NFL gridiron next season, if ever, and he also doesn't know anymore about what degree of damage was done to his achilles, than anyone else outside of the Lions' "inner-circle" knows.

The Lions' FO has been very tight-lipped about Leshoure, ever since the day that he became injured last year. Nothing at all about his progress has leaked out either, not even one single negative or positive word about him has been uttered or had "inadvertently" slipped out by anyone, including Leshoure himself apparently. That isn't good, and tends to make me much more pessimistic than optimistic about Mikel's future as a Lion.

Everyone knows that an ACL injury means a player, even though "healed" and cleared to play, won't be the same for the first year he returns but the following year he is basically able to play at the same level as before the injury.

If that is the case with an ACL, why should anyone remotely think the same wouldn't be true for an Achillies injury like this in the best case scenario? In all likelihood, one would reasonably extrapolate that to mean Leshoure won't be "normal" until 2013 at best. I'm no doctor and never considered myself very smart when it came to Bio classes, but the Achillies IMO would have to require at least that and I would actually expect Leshoure won't be close to 100% until 2014 at the earliest simply because the Achillies is thicker and the pressures involved in running are greater I believe.

He has youth on his side, but part of all the above timeframes is due to inability to workout, so you also lose muscle mass and flexibility. I agree with Turok that TLIW has zero clue on this and is just trying to spin false hope.

I will be shocked if the Lions don't go after a solid RB in the offseason.

As far as your Bio classes, a whole different story for a RB where cuts are extremely important.

Prepare to be shocked. They won't have the money. The offense moved fine without a run game this year. If the Lions add to their offense at all, it will be O-Line in the draft. Kevin Smith will be back. If they add anyone, you won't consider them any better than the players on the roster today (not sure if thats what you meant).

I'm becoming increasingly more convinced that the football gods are just making us wait for Barry Jr

Then not only will the football gods make us wait, the "stars" will also have to be in perfect alignment as well, b/c IF Junior demonstrates that he may be nearly as great, if not better than his dad was, the Lions would absolutely have to be the very first or maybe second/third in line in that year's draft, in order to grab him, even w/o knowing who may be also available that would be the BPA for any other team or teams that would or might be picking ahead of them.

So that would mean that either the Lions were awful enough after the previous season to be in the top two or three picking, or they managed to "somehow" trade up to select in the top two or three spots.

Its not exactly a secret about how well Junior's extremely talented father played, no matter what mostly Cowboys fans think, who are old enough to remember, and still argue about Sanders vs Smith up to this "Barry" day...heh!!.

Anyway, who do you think that the Lions would have to trade, who would be good enough to pry the "best" possible pick away from another team, in order to move up that high in the first round?

Fairley?

Suh?

Fairley +Suh??

Megatron?

A now very seasoned and elite "veteran" QB in Stafford?

Both??

It is very possible that offering both Calvin and Matt by then STILL wouldn't be enough to pry that pick out of another teams hands, b/c their FO would be virtually "ridden out of town on a rail" if they dared to or far better still, were stupid enough to give the Detroit Lions out of all teams, the second coming of Barry Sanders in his son...haha!!
