Leyland

From the conventional way to managing a bullpen to setting up a lineup, the majority of MLB managers are very bad strategist.

Who are the "good" managers in MLB these days?

There sure aren't very many. And the good managers don't do it on their own. They surround themselves with the best as far as complimentary coaching staffs. We lost two of the best managers of the last few decades recently.

I think of the Cox/Mazzone and LaRussa/Duncan as far as the great manager/pitching coach combos in recent memory. Those guys were on another planet.

For me personally I'd have to go with Joe Maddon. I just can't think of another guy that has been able to get more out of his players. What him and Hickey have done with bullpen guys in particular is just unbelievable. Rodney looks like a different player entirely in a Rays uniform.

So, YOU know more than all the other managers about what makes a good manager??

Got it.

Never said i did. Are you fn illiterate? Probably....

I said i don't give a fuck what other baseball manangers vote Leyland as. Leyland is a joke, his time has come and gone. He's been in the game since the 70's i believe? Of course he'll get the respect. All old farts do....give me a break.

Got that?? Good...

Leyland has been an MLB manager since 1986. Wondering exactly when his time "went" and why.

Talk about 2006, before he came to the Tigers or even last season, it doesn't matter. In 2012, he's done poorly.

Settle down princess.....I got it.

But I can't read.....so.....what??

Enlighten me on how, specifically, Leyland has been so bad this year??

My opinion only, but I suspect Mangers will always value other managers who've been in the league for awhile like Leyland, more. And how often do you see one manager rip into another? There opinions hold little value to me.

Gene Mauch: Considered a great manager; never won a WS and was the manager of the '64 Phillies.

Ralph Houk: Never considered a great manager, but won three pennants and two WS.

For continually throwing Valverde in non-save situations. Everyone knows he stinks in that role. So instead of using Benoit for a 2nd inning, after an 8 pitch 8th he goes to JV.

Leaving in Delmon at 5 for most of the year. And saying in April, DY is the LF. Continually playing Raburn.

There is only so much he can do with this roster, DD put it together. But he has made mistake after mistake.

Who should he have batted 5th??

Also, did the Tigers lose a game this year with Valverde pitching in a non save situation in the 9th?

Based on last years numbers, our SS or C. And Maybe with more guys on base they would look better now. But based on 2011, it should have been the SS or C.

And no, but a 30 pitch inning in a non save loses him for the next game so it has an effect.

So you're saying that Leyland is an idiot because he didn't put a guy in the 5 hole with these numbers.....

.263 8HR 44RBI .727 OPS
.260 7HR 35RBI .760 OPS

over a guy who is

.265 13HR 49RBI .698OPS??

Seems like a pretty bad argument to make. They all suck. At best you're splitting hairs right there. AT BEST.

And how many of those times he put Valverde in those situations had he not pitched in a number of days prior??? Guy needs to get work, right??

The arguments you're making seem to be trivial. I guess that's my point. Saying he is horrible because of some of these points is dumb. It's not like he's batting Delmon 5th over Josh Hamilton or Joey Votto.

And I'm not sure id put Benoit in a game right now AT ALL unless I was trying to get someone out in the LF seats a HR ball.

He's a trainwreck out there. He's terrible with with lineups, he doesn't know how to manage a bullpen, treats the media like shit and shows zero respect for them. He's done so much garbage the last couple of years, it's maddening.

It's time to move on...
