Pride Of Detroit Lions Podcast: Ranking the top 10 TEs for the 2020 NFL season. 72 minutes.
Will T.J. Hockenson make our list of the top 10 NFL tight ends?

Tight end is a position in the NFL that appears to be making somewhat of a comeback. With defenses getting smaller and faster to deal with the predominance of spread offenses in the NFL, an athletic, but BIG tight end can create a mismatch that most NFL defenses aren?t prepared to stop.

Just last year alone, we saw the two Super Bowl teams?the 49ers and the Chiefs?sport two of the best tight ends in the league in George Kittle and Travis Kelce, respectively. Those two both eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards in 2019, a feat in which only one other tight end (Raiders? Darren Waller) accomplished last year.

The Detroit Lions are obviously looking to jump on this trend, as they spent the eighth overall pick on T.J. Hockenson last year. His rookie season provided some brief optimism, but ultimately ended in injury and disappointment. Still, there is plenty of optimism that Hockenson will grow, learn and eventually become a top-tier tight end in this league.

Is it too early to consider him a top-10 tight end right now, though? A true mismatch at the tight end position is rare, and there are really only three or four tight ends that have consistently performed at a level to consider them elite. Does that leave room for Hockenson to slip into the top 10 despite no actual proof yet?

That?s the question we sought to answer on this week?s PODcast, in which we rank the top 10 tight ends in the NFL right now. Take a listen.

After we rank our top 10 tight ends, we answer your questions about the Lions, including:

How will COVID-19 affect the salary cap and players?

What should the Lions do for the supplemental draft?

If there is no season in 2020, how will draft order be determined next year?

Which Lions player is in a prove-it season?

Is it possible Matt Patricia could be fired without Bob Quinn coming along?

What?s your favorite ?bad? movie?

How to support POD if the season is cancelled.

Detroit Lions Podcast ? Still Reporting On The Ford Family
While we?re sad to see Martha Ford leaving her post as Principal Owner of the Detroit Lions, we are at the same time happy to see Sheila Ford Hamp step up to the position she?s been transitioning into for a while. She has a lot to offer the team and has been quite involved (by all reports) for a while now. We talk about Martha?s time as owner and give her high marks for what she has done to transform the team and its identity. Her time at the helm will be remembered well.

We discuss where we would have liked to see Ford Hamp take action upon taking the reins and what she could do in the near future to seal her position and put her stamp on the team. In the end we discuss the effect of the move and share our thoughts on some of the fan feedback that?s been posted in various forums.

Locking Down Our Left Guard.
Jonah Jackson has finally signed his contract and is officially a Detroit Lions player. This is a great pick that will have an impact, so it?s good to lock him down and have the paperwork done. Also, we discuss Training Camp, what it could look like, what to expect, and who is making the decisions.

Watch: Detroit Lions Podcast and Lions Wire break down the ownership change. 86 minutes.

In our 5th anniversary show, the Detroit Lions Podcast wound up being dedicated to discussing the change in Lions ownership from Martha Ford to her daughter, Sheila Ford Hamp.

We broke down all angles of new ownership, from Martha?s legacy to what we want to see from Mrs. Ford Hamp. How does the move impact the ?win or else? edict on Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia? Also on the discussion docket is the Lions salary cap situation, what it means strategically during the pandemic uncertainty and why no free agents are being signed.

Speaking of signing, third-round pick Jonah Jackson inked his rookie contract. How does he fit, and why aren?t other draft picks signed? We broke that down, too.
