Lions Clinch Playoff Spot After Redskins loss to Giants.

To all of you that didn't see the Lions making the playoffs this year, why the doom and gloom now?

Simple man. Expectations change.

I don't care what the circumstances are, who's injured, what we thought of the team going into the season. When you are 9-4 and have a two game lead with three to go to win the first division crown in forever, you get it done.

I don't think they will be awful next year...they will likely be similar to this year. Right around a .500 team. You never know, they could hit something in the draft or in FA.

1-6 vs +.500 teams and 8 comeback 4th quarter wins vs the bad teams. I have a hard time putting a team like that as a .500 team. Especially vs next years schedule. Definitely have an entire off season to go. But how do you possible get this team to where it needs to be in 1 off season?

Team Holes:
DE pass rusher that actually gets to the qb
DT pass rusher to put next to Robinson moving into future
LB atleast 1
CB
S
LG
RT if we dont resign Reiff

Thats without addressing the need of a playmaking WR, workhorse RB, and upgrade at LG. Quin will need to earn his paycheck for this to be a competitive team next year.

Because they look like shit and have huge glaring holes and nobody believes they'll do anything but embarrass the fan base again SAT

That's why.

This is a 4 win team that exceeded expectations by squeeking out miracle wins vs bad teams. The second you put it into perspective the easier it is to understand the 3 losses to get into the playoffs and completely wasting an opportunity to win a divisional title for the first time in close to 30 years.

Stafford probably kept caldwells and cooters jobs for another year. Which probably sets the rebuild Quin wants to happen back yet another another year.

Honestly, my doom and gloom comes from the fact were now a talentless team picking low in the draft. Not a good combination. Im down for the day we pick low in the draft and actually deserve it. But the talent in the upcomming draft when picking from 10-20 is much different than picking 20-32.

You don't have to be good to be around .500. The Lions aren't good and got to 9-7. They will likely be within one game of 8-8 next year unless they hit HR's in the draft or FA.

fair enough....but looking at that schedule i think we need to hit home runs....like babe ruth.....just to get to .500 next year.

Off season needs in no particular order

1. Bigger body or two for the red zone
2. A pass rush
3. A RB that can hit you the mouth
4. At least one bigger bodied WR
5. A better backfield bench.
6. A better kick returner
7. Coaches that truly understand and get that there is nothing to lose in Detroit.
8. Bigger Online at a G or two spot

anything else?

Not successful, but a pretty good starting point for Bob Quin. I expect him to bring in some talent this year, and cut bait with some players that are under performing. Improving the dline and back 7 should(will) be his primary concern this off season. Plain to see. Oline should go unaddressed IMO. Give abdullah and zenner another year to prove themselves. Zenner should have guaranteed himself a roster spot next year with his gutty last two games. Adding a big bodied receiver should also be addressed

I don't think there should be a new starting point every time we get a new GM. What about when we get a new HC, OC? Almost 60 years with one playoff win.. Maybe to him it will be a success but we don't win on Saturday it's same ole same ole. If we win I'll throw a party.

Talentless???

Not sure about that. We need more talent, certainly, but nowhere close to talentless.

Stafford and Slay. Thats all i got as far as top tier quality guys at their position. Ansah im putting on hold for now.....yes i understand he played this year comming off injury....but bottom line he was awful.

Robinson for the future but hes a part time player right now. Decker i like. But they arent impact players and no where near the top of the list of players at their position.

Theres no one else on this team i would call a talent.

1. Agreed. (A real shame Marvin is so terrible coming off of contact at the line, he has the frame for it.
2. I think if they keep Hyder and Ziggy gets healthy that they only need one more piece. I really think Ziggy is playing hurt.
3. Small sample size but I'm pleased with what Zenner has showed. Seems like he's always moving forward.
4. Yes, please.
5. Sweet jesus, yes.
6. I have no complaints about Andre.
7. This is probably more appropriate on a WISH list. Never going to happen this offseason. :ugh:
8. Good bye Laken. Enjoy resuming your career path as a doctor or whatever it was.

I'd like to add to your list a really good blocking tight end.

Man, and I finally came around to Stafford and he goes and completely tails off to finish 13th in QBR. I know the finger played a role, but if he's elite, he wins that game last night. He was very off, he missed a ton of easy throws last night.

I've maintained for a while that he's a very good QB but more often than not will need a decent defense to ever have a successful playoff run. He's not the kind of QB that wins games on his own, but I don't hold that against him as that describes most QBs in the NFL.

9-4 with 3 games to go(2away) against much more talented teams. You don't get it. We were out-talented, you expected a Rudy moment, lol? I'll say it again, not enough talent to beat the good teams in the NFL, but enough to go 9-2 against the teams on our level. I'm dissapointed too guys, but am TRYING to look at this as a realist, not a die hard fan

Sorry, I don't buy GB has this massively superior team in terms of talent. They had to have Aaron Rodgers become basically historically good in his last 7 games to get them into the playoffs. That defense was decimated with injuries, and he's out there with probably just as shitty running game as the Lions have.

It's the NFL man. It's not Tennessee Tech going into Alabama and pulling a miracle. The Lions were 9-6, GB 9-6, and you have a home game to win the division. How about the team punches above its weight one time against a team they shouldn't beat?

Tired of hearing the same ol song and dance about how the Lions can beat crap teams but can't hang with the good ones. It's been that way forever. Surprise us ONE TIME.

Lions teams have been mediocre or bust, for all of the years that I have followed them. What truly sets them apart from ALL of the other NFL franchises, is their uncanny ability to find uniquely creative and imaginative ways of letting down their fanbase, season after season. I consider myself to be a veteran cynic who still roots for them to win, but realistically expects them to end up being the SOL.

Gotta disagree with "he's not the kind of QB that wins games on his own". The records say otherwise. Cmon man.

1. At least 1 more guy for sure. After Boldin is gone, we got who? Ebron not used properly down there burns my ass.
2. Hell ya.
3. Zenner should be that guy IMO.
4. 100%. Too many tiny WRs running around out there...
5. Not sure i agree. Abdullah and Riddick as 1and 2. With Zenner and Washington as the fillers. I still like Washington...yes.
6. Roberts did a helluva job IMO but there's always room for improvement.
7. 100%
8. RG and RT need to be addressed. Maybe Dahl steps up next year??

Good list bro. I still think their biggest need(s) are CB, LB, DE. In that order. Imagine another shutdown corner opposite Slay? A healthy Ansah teamed up with a high pick DE. Throw another good LB in the mix high too! Would be nice but there's obviously other needs. I think we can find a WR through FA that can help next year. I say concentrate on the draft and go defense.

Apparently we could compete with Dallas the 1st half. Remember the reason he decided to switch running backs.. Plus, I also agree that GB doesn't have more talent than us.. Not sure how you get much more talented on that one. NYG are only better in the fact they have a more balanced team, imo.
