To all of you that didn't see the Lions making the playoffs this year, why the doom and gloom now?

Get StartedI don't think they will be awful next year...they will likely be similar to this year. Right around a .500 team. You never know, they could hit something in the draft or in FA.

1-6 vs +.500 teams and 8 comeback 4th quarter wins vs the bad teams. I have a hard time putting a team like that as a .500 team. Especially vs next years schedule. Definitely have an entire off season to go. But how do you possible get this team to where it needs to be in 1 off season?
Team Holes:
DE pass rusher that actually gets to the qb
DT pass rusher to put next to Robinson moving into future
LB atleast 1
CB
S
LG
RT if we dont resign Reiff
Thats without addressing the need of a playmaking WR, workhorse RB, and upgrade at LG. Quin will need to earn his paycheck for this to be a competitive team next year.
You don't have to be good to be around .500. The Lions aren't good and got to 9-7. They will likely be within one game of 8-8 next year unless they hit HR's in the draft or FA.
Honestly, my doom and gloom comes from the fact were now a talentless team picking low in the draft.
Not successful, but a pretty good starting point for Bob Quin. I expect him to bring in some talent this year, and cut bait with some players that are under performing. Improving the dline and back 7 should(will) be his primary concern this off season. Plain to see. Oline should go unaddressed IMO. Give abdullah and zenner another year to prove themselves. Zenner should have guaranteed himself a roster spot next year with his gutty last two games. Adding a big bodied receiver should also be addressed
Talentless???
Not sure about that. We need more talent, certainly, but nowhere close to talentless.
Off season needs in no particular order
1. Bigger body or two for the red zone
2. A pass rush
3. A RB that can hit you the mouth
4. At least one bigger bodied WR
5. A better backfield bench.
6. A better kick returner
7. Coaches that truly understand and get that there is nothing to lose in Detroit.
8. Bigger Online at a G or two spot
anything else?
Man, and I finally came around to Stafford and he goes and completely tails off to finish 13th in QBR. I know the finger played a role, but if he's elite, he wins that game last night. He was very off, he missed a ton of easy throws last night.
Simple man. Expectations change.
I don't care what the circumstances are, who's injured, what we thought of the team going into the season. When you are 9-4 and have a two game lead with three to go to win the first division crown in forever, you get it done.

I've maintained for a while that he's a very good QB but more often than not will need a decent defense to ever have a successful playoff run. He's not the kind of QB that wins games on his own, but I don't hold that against him as that describes most QBs in the NFL.

9-4 with 3 games to go(2away) against much more talented teams. You don't get it. We were out-talented, you expected a Rudy moment, lol? I'll say it again, not enough talent to beat the good teams in the NFL, but enough to go 9-2 against the teams on our level. I'm dissapointed too guys, but am TRYING to look at this as a realist, not a die hard fan
