Lion's draft day trade

http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/57393/asante-samuel-could-fit-with-falcons

They can restructure several contracts much like we did to create room. Sam Baker, Ovie Mughelli and Mike Turner are three that can be restructured.

I know, but its not just about that. Samuel has no incentive to accept a new contract that pays him less than $10 mil a year, and thats simply not good value for any team, even if they can fit it.

Samuel's options:
1. Accept a new contract from a team that trades for him. Most likely, this deal will average significantly less than the $10-$11 mil average he's going to make over the next 2 years.
2. Eagles can't trade him, so they release him. Now, any contract a team was offering during trade talks is on the table, and has probably increased since he's on the open market.
3. Eagles don't trade or cut him. He makes over $10 mil this year.

Option 1 is clearly the most unattractive. Unless someone agrees to let him keep the money still on his contract (restructuring just pushes the cap hit into the future), he won't sign a new deal.

#2 is the option Samuel is going to force them into...he will be able to negotiate his own new deal and go where he wants.

Exactly. He's not getting traded. And when he hits the open market, don't look for Detroit to enter the bidding unless Cliff is signed.

I dont want him...I think the go CB in round #1.

I don't think Dre will be there. Tennessee will take him.

I'm starting to think BPA at 23 will be a LB or DT, which is why I think they'll move out.

Some of the latest buzz is that Lions are looking at the option of trading with Seattle to move up and take Barron if he falls out of the top 10. Three or four others are also looking at trading up to grab him including the Chargers and Jets.

Barron and Delmas would be quite the combo but the cost to move up would suck especially for a safety.

I understand Schwartz has wood for defensive tackles but another one? You can only rotate so much. In fact I think the front 4 struggled last season a bit because they rotated too much. I know they played Suh a ton his rookie season but last season I saw him on the sidelines, 2-3 plays at a time. WTF?

I know. Thats why I said they'd trade out. They won't take another DT high.

Where are you hearing this? I haven't seen anything like this.

Consensus is that Barron won't get past the Boys at 14 so several teams are looking to jump them and trade into the 12-13 spot with Seattle being associated as the team most actively shopping their pick.

Teams linked to a trade up scenario for Barron (several articles Google teams looking to trade up for Mark Barron) Chargers (most recent), Eagles, Patriots (? they usually move down), Jets, Lions, and Bengals probably more that those are the ones I have heard mentioned. Nothing concrete though that's why I said Buzz, although if you send it to ESPN insider you'll probably get it posted on the front page.

K thanks. I personally hope they don't. Would cost too much IMO

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the hang-up to a potential Asante Samuel trade to the Falcons is the cornerback's contract, not compensation for the Eagles.

considering their 2 starters are now making a combined 15.5 million , ya I'd say it's his contract....lol

The Bills are reportedly "extremely interested" in Alabama S Mark Barron and South Carolina CB Stephon Gilmore.
The team views Barron as a "playmaker" and a "day-one starter" for their defensive scheme. Although the Bills do have interest in Boston College LB Luke Kuechly, WGR 550 Buffalo's Joe Buscaglia expects the No. 10 pick to come down to Barron or Gilmore. The Cowboys, Chargers, and Patriots are out of luck on Barron if the Bills are truly smitten.
