Lions First Round Pick

Who will the Lions draft?

  • Total voters
    23
  • Poll closed .
i agree with LKP in regards to his observations on Ebron. Hes a dynamic pass catching threat and would be huge for this offense. Fauria is a big body in the red zone...that's about it.

As far as my predictions. When you put out a thread like this with fairly informative fans who all have a good idea of the make up of the team.....and we get THIS many different responses....its a good indication that 10 is not a good spot for us to draft. THIS many responses means there not that 1 or 2 guys there that would fit a good need or value or, ideally, you want both out of a top 10 pick. With that being said....id hope we could find a trade partner to move down. Any trade partner from 13-25 would do. There just isn't good value at 10. Now if were stuck there I agree with a lot of the names you guys have said...ill list my preferences in order:
1) gilbert
positive - its obvious we need help iomn the secondary and he might be the best corner in the draft. Athletically hes ridiculous and throw in the return ability for added value.

negative - He wouldn't be guaranteed to even contribute year 1. He might not even be a starter.

2) Whatever Tackle falls
positive - This is te positon im counting on other teams needing to jump up to get at 10. Theres 4 quality top 15 type tackles in the draft. If we select one we have our bookends for the next 10 years. Reiff did a great job at LT but he could technically be better suited at RT. Investing in Stafford success is a common theme in this organization.

negative - its not a drastic need and you stunt Waddles progression. Waddle may have deserved a shot to show what he has given last years play.

3) Ebron
positive - his value is there....
negative - but the need might not be now that we resigned Pettigrew. top 10 TEs are usually a little more well rounded in all facets of the game. Hes viewed more as the dynamic playmaker and not so much as a blocker.

4) Donald
positive - If things aren't going well with Suh and Fairley is out of the future plans....DT becomes an immediate need next year.
negative - questionable size for the position....10 might be a slight reach as far as value is concerned.

5) HHCD
positive - we have zero safety depth. He can cover anyone on the field (TE WR RB)
negative - HHCD is not a top 10 caliber player. Ihedigbo signing becomes absolete.

The one note id make.....I wouldn't touch Evans with a 30 foot pole. Theres too much quality WR depth in this draft to jump at a jump ball back shoulder type WR that doesn't not create separation due to his route running. Every highlight tape I watch is johnny football making the play for him....all he has to do is jump and catch. Hes the guy id stay away from at 10.

He becomes quality depth. Isn't that's what we all ache for, depth?

Saw a stat on drop rate % on another messsage board.

Ebron was at a 11.4% drop rate and Pettigrew was at a 11.5% drop rate. Go get him!! I'll smash whatever tv i'm watching it on...lol.

I went with the more realistic pick btw. Mike Evans.

I think he has a good chance of being there. My dream pick is Mack or Watkins, but that's what it is...a dream.

http://www.wgr550.com/Study-shows-Ebron-has-highest-drop-rate-among-top-/9034669?pid=396947

His YPC blows everyone away. If he has a good comp % and can be a matchup nightmare I'll allow the drops like I did with Bush and Calvin this year.

I understand all that, but i just feel the hype machine is rolling hard on this kid. I'm not saying he could never be good, but at #10?? I hate the pick. I hate it even more because we just re-signed a TE and we have Fauria. I want to see Fauria "grow" in this offense. I think he can be more than a redzone threat. You take Ebron and Fauria gets limited again. I'm just not feeling Ebron....sorry.

Stafford isn't going to pick guys up...need to surround him with superior talent at every position or he cant succeed and we wasted 100 mil. If theres 1 thing you can plan on....its that they'll continue to surround stafford with weapons.

I see a lot of us are picking Gilbert. I think Gilbert falls to the mid first round, from everything I've read it is looking that way. No knock on the kid from me, I wouldn't be disappointed if he's the pick but remember slotting Prince Amukamara and Jimmy Smith to us and them falling to the 20s that's my prediction for Gilbert.

Yeah I've seen Gilbert falling lately too and taken over by Dennard by some.

ya, we can worry about guys like todd mcshay thinking gilbert should go at 15 and not at 10. Orrrrr we can actually pick decent cb talent early in the draft so we don't have to complain every year how our secondary sucks. I love seeing the guys that complain about the secondary and then put like a rd 3 or 4 cb in their mock year after year.....like that's going to change anything.

I though this was the what's going to happen thread. If this is the what should happen thread I'm right there with you.

It's not like Stephon Gilmore, Morris Claiborne, Kirkpatrick or Dee Milliner would do shit for us. They are all worse than Chris Houston and have as much potential as Slay.

Peterson in 2011, who Mayhew tried to trade up for by the way but didn't want to give up the 2nd. 2nd is valuable but in hindsight you give up Fairley, Young and LeShoure for Peterson. And who knows with the poor DB coaching if Peterson does what he does for Arizona for us. Horton vs Gunther and Walton vs the Cards DB coach with different schemes. And passing on Prince who was injury prone until this season. He had a solid season but not great. Fairley was BPA at the time and has produced. More than Prince I would say given 2012/2013 compared to 2013.

And the winners are........

LKP and Mitchrapp who were the only two who voted for Ebron as the guy the Lions would end up with.

(Just thought I'd bump this after all the bitch and moan threads already)

Wonderful... somehow we managed todo a poll that gives LKP bragging rights.

Whether Ebron is good or shit now, it's "the guy he wanted all along".
