Lions lowball George Johnson Bucs sign him to 3 year offer sheet

Accidentally built a championship defense? Can you not give them credit for anything?

Guess I was meaning built it without putting high priority on it (accident was probably not the correct word).

It's clear the goal has been to build a high scoring/elite offense, that just hasn't happened. But the amount of money and resources put into it suggest that is their plan. Offense first, defense second.

I spit my coffee out when I saw he typed that.

Mayhew built a champioinship defense. Ansah, Suh (now Ngata), Levy, Quin, Slay, Mathis, Tulloch/Whithead, Dig, Jones. That's Mayhew. It's a great job.

It's wasn't lucky. The blind hate is just so obvious when you see someone say it was lucky.

That makes it an even better job. He did it without using a ton of money. People praised Seattle for that, Detroit did the same thing to a degree.

And now Mayhew maintained it when he traded for Ngata.

The 'accident' was hiring Teryl Austin as D Coordinator, all those players were here before and the defense was middling. It truly was an accident because Whizenhunt bitch slapped Mayhew back to Caldwell, who promptly hired his Baltimore colleague. So brewer don't correct yourself it was a total accident much like anything this franchise does right. Things that are not by accident and totally thought out by our scouts/FO get you Y2E. Just ask ink.

I wouldn't really say "offense first". How many 1st rd defensive players they draft under Mayhew? How many defensive players brought in through FA? How many years without a running game? How many years without a true #2 or #3 WR? I would say the complete opposite...it's defense first IMO

And you're an idiot. Don't forget your umbrella when you go outside. Who the fuck am i kidding? You're sitting on your couch right now with that bad boy open over your head.

69 Million on offense
47 Million on defense.

It was an accident Thompson took Aaron Rodgers. He wanted Marcus Spears and a trade down. That is a true story.

And 2013 the Lions defense showed flashes of greatness (3rd down, run D). It just goes to show you how injury and rookies affect things. Houston, Mathis and Quin had injuries (top guys), Jones hurt. Slay was a rookie (rookie struggles). Ansah was a rookie. Year 2, Mayhew's boys shine and stay healthy. Austin helped too but it wasn't just Austin. It was progression in year 2, good ole year 2 Slay and year 2 Ansah and health (especially with the top 3 secondary players for once).

Stafford and Calvin under old CBA and 2nd contracts. Clearly explains that since it's most of the money.
Fairley, Ansah, Slay under rookie deals.

Mayhew made great cheaper deals for Levy, Quin and Mathis. Kudos to Mayhew for a being a shrewd and smart GM.

Stunning retort my good man, I have been bested of the field of intelligentsia.

Kind of like bombing an aspirin factory in Iraq. Clinton took all the hea for that one, but it wasn't Clinton providing the intel, gathering the data, and making the recommendation. It was Clinton who listened to the advice of the Joint Chiefs of Staff who said "Hey, this is actually an WMD factory, and we have to take it out now"... and Clinton did. Oops. If he hadn't listened to the intel from the chiefs as well as the CIA, he would have been an idiot that put lives at risk.

The Lions have a large scouting staff. Those are the guys putting together the draft reports, working with the coaching staff on systems, and proving the "intel". They are the guys who tell Mayhew "The are the final draft day grades, and these are our blue chip players."

I don't know, maybe Ebron looks like King Shit on Turd Mountain this season.. or maybe we blew up an aspirin factory. Either way, his job is to listen to the guys who put it all together, and fire them if they are stupid.

Here you have compared the Detroit Lions to America's failed Iraq intel, America's decision makers to the Detroit Lions, and Eric Ebron to a bombed out baby Aspirin factory. I don't know who I should feel worse for...Oh, I know... me! I'm the one that's going to get bombarded by fans of each one saying "love or leave it, buddy".

But clearly we have used resources on defense. Suh, Fairley, Ansah, Slay, Van Noy. the incredible move to trade a future 4th for Whithead. Now trading for Ngata (great deal but using cap space).

Re-signing Tulloch and Levy. Signing Quin, Mathis and Dig and Jones.

Mayhew used less money for several reasons but some was him just being smart and finding good players for cheaper.

I'll take their accidents over ours please.

Rodgers was an accident that he was available.

Ours wasn't. It was progression from rookies and Ansah,Slay,Quin,Levy,Suh,Mathis health that got us a top 5 defense.

There's no outlier here. And no excuses. The guy is what he is.

I've never argued that he will be a HOFer one day, but I'm sure not going to sit back and tear the guy down like he's a worthless bum and pretend he's terrible.

He's clearly the best QB this team has ever had, including Landry and Layne, and in an era where the QB is called upon to do a lot more than hand it off 75% of the snaps. However, given a history of names like Batch, Harrington, Kitna, Pete, etc... it's not saying a whole lot.

You want to be convinced he's hot garbage based on your cherry picked stats be my guest, but in my honest opinion you have your head up your ass because you like to bitch too much. When you run out of things to bitch about, you make up new ones.

But, I said I was done with these arguments. Like him, hate him, or accept him, he's the QB of this team, and thats not likely to change for years to come. This board has turned every possible thread into a Stafford debate, and it's getting stale. He's not the only topic of conversation, but it's damned hard to find a thread that hasn't degenerated into a debate about his worthiness.

If a thread starts out talking about the damned waterboy it will turn into a Stafford sucks thread by page 3.

every conversation comes back to him because he is the qb. QB has his hand on whether people are bad, good, or great. Our qb makes a couple people great and every one else suck. He turned a top 10 pick into a heaping pile of garbage last year. Tate was GREAT when CJ wasn't playing. Tate was pedestrian when CJ was up to speed. In this "high powered" offense we spent so much money on we had 2 guys contribute consistently. Imagine how easy it is to stop an offense when you only have to worry about 2 guys. I agree he is the best qb weve had. But weve had a bunch of turds at qb for the last 30 years. So saying hes the best turd really isn't saying much.

Tate was good with Calvin you buffoon. We went over this. And Ebron was a rookie. Stafford didn't make Ebron lack production. Ebron just needs time like all rookie TES.

There it is again!! Stafford's fault for EE's failures??? Are you seriously this numb? For sure Stafford either raped your mom or sister. Nobody is this stupid
