Lions Off Season Thread

You really think Quinn is going to go out and overpay a bunch of bad players?

Nope I don't. I did not say that anywhere. I actually agree with you in that I don't think he will do that. You're missing my point now.

I'm pointing out that you can't use language like "I'm right" and "it's proven" when these sorts of things haven't happened yet. I offered counter examples of Dumars and Holland which you ignored. You are not 12 years old (I don't think). Let's use some actual common sense and logic instead of troll language. That's all I'm saying.

Carry on

These are the kind of comments you should focus on bad mouthing, UMRules. The quote is a troll comment. I present opinions and facts that we discuss

You have a history of posting nonsense on purpose that you don't actually believe in to purposefully start arguments and annoy people.

Mitch made a joke...pretty clear difference.

It's proven Quinn is intelligent and spent wisely last year. Anything else would be a complete shock. You agree with me that he overspend for bada players. So you are picking on minut details in language. You are the one missing the point.

Yes I'm picking on your language because I'm tired of you acting like you're a Mr. Know It All when everybody knows you're not. Act with some humility and common sense is all I ask.

I'll drop it. Don't want to derail the thread any further.

LOL a joke. Read most of his comments. They are troll comments similar in nature to that comment. And many other posters provide the same "jokes" in a lot of their comments.

I am not trying to start arguments with intelligent people (they would be agreeing with me). Misinformed people may disagree with what I say but that is the fun of a message board. It's my job to then inform them. It's a service I provide, free of charge. Oh my god, banter on a message board. Discussion of topics and opinions. My style is not trolling, it's informing. You may not care for my style, but that doesn't mean my style is wrong or trolling.

I don't see how anyone can fuck up this draft....holes everywhere. Just pick warm bodies. That 21 spot will have like 10 quality options.

Needs:

Pass rushing DT, closed end, nickel back (or bigger number 2 CB to move Lawson to nickel back and give good number 1 and 2 CB depth) and a more athletic LB (now since Levy is slowed and Whitehead had a bad year and Bynes did poorly down the stretch this year). Whitehead, Levy and Bynes could all rebound in 2017 but getting younger is a good bet at LB. Go defense in Round 1 and 2 and fill a hole with young talent. Depends on free agency too though of course.

RG and RT depends on the re-signs of Reiff and Warfod. Faster slot than Boldin. Workhorse back due to Abdullah and Riddick injuries. Backup QB a need (lots of solid vets hitting free agency). Again depends on free agency. 3 of these become holes when contracts expire.

What is set:

QB, receiving RB, playmaking RB, WR 1, WR 2, LT, Center, pass catching TE, one guard is set (assuming Swanson health). Good building blocks on offense.

Nose tackle, stud DE, backup DE (Hyder ERFA), FS, SS, CB1 is set. CB2 in good shape with Lawson but could get better while adding depth in the process by drafting a stud CB. Most of defense set but can finish it off with one DE, one DT, two LBs (maybe only one), nickel back (or number 2 CB depending how you feel about Lawson).

Lots of depth still with Laken, Dahl, Robinson on Oline. Need WR depth with Boldin and Robert now free agents. Adding one young LB creates LB depth (depends on one re-sign and Williams). Bademosi did well in 2 games but bad in one as CB depth. Diggs could become depth. Lawson could become CB 2 depth. Need a better blocking TE.

Lots of positions filled. But some holes now due to impending free agents and the LBs/Taylor not playing well enough.

Malcolm Smith or Paul Worrilow...2 ILB's that could come cheap if they don't find a stud in the draft. 2 players that have made plays in the past.

Lions, Texans and Mia were the only teams with a winning record that gave up more points than they scored. There were 7-9 teams like PHI and NO that had a positive point diferential. It makes little to no sense how this team made the playoffs. Lot of work to do to get this roster right.

Malcolm Smith would be a really good get. Sideline to sideline player that can cover.

Levy, Smith and Whitehead would not be a bad starting trio at all. They still would need to add another LB in the draft because you cant count on Levy.....but I'd be all for it. Bynes is good depth......but Williams, Armtackeler and the rest of the bunch are just AAAA players.

Lions won and earned 9 wins (more IMO). They weren't lucky wins or ref aided wins, they were hard fought 9 earned wins. in a tough NFC. They beat Washington and swept the Vikings. That is how they made the playoffs. Detroit beat the lower teams and ALL the NFC teams on the cusp of the playoffs. If Washington beats Detroit, or Minnesota split with Detroit, the Lions would have missed. If Detroit didn't beat the Saints, both would be 8-8. Same with Eagles. The Lions earned the playoffs by beating EVERY team on the cusp of the playoffs.

They won close games (which is a good trait to have) and got blown out once on the road(Dallas). So that is why a good team had a negative point differential. Well that and injuries.

A-. Missing a pass rushing DT and Walker, Thornton, Charles a lot to be desired. Ngata and Taylor took a step back but I understand why he would rely on them for 2016. Whitehead a step back after a re-sign and Levy injured/Bynes injured. We'll see if Whitehead was worth the re-sign next year.
RB injuries unlucky.
Added to Oline nicely in draft and Decker a great pick.
Boldin great signing
Marvin Jones great signing
Ansah 5th year option no brainer.
CB and DE depth questionable with Slay and Diggs injuries. Though Bademosi did well in 2 of the 3 games (not Dallas game). Beast on ST too. Nickel CB real question
I liked the safety adds in Wilson, Bush and Killebrew cheap and 4th round. Wilson 2 year add was nice and he did a solid job.
A'shawn Robinson nice draft pick but not a pass rusher yet
Ansah hurt most of the year. Levy hurt most of year and not the same after new knee injury Unlucky
Stafford great year until the injury.
Keeping Caldwell and company. Smart
Slay, Riddick and Martin re-signs. Really great job there.

A- since pass rushing DT is the only gripe and maybe DE/nickel CB depth. But Taylor and Ngata regression a bit unexpected to lose the pass rush. Nice job keeping Hyder though.

Current Walter Mock has us taking DT/DE Malik McDowell in rd 1 with

Zach Cunningham LB
Caleb Brantley DT
Jabrill Peppers S
Jalen Tabor CD

...On the board.

Ya at this point it doesnt matter all that much who they have being mocked to us.....but moreso it gives an idea of whos projected around there. Definitely alot of quality talent will be on the board at 21. John Ross would also be intriguing at WR.

True. Board changes a lot but there should be talent there. I think everyone is on the same defensive page for Round 1. But that depends on free agency and Warford/Reiff. I'd be shocked if Quinn took a WR, guard or right tackle at 21.

I think it depends alot on what Boldin does. You cant go into next season with only Tate, disseappearing act from Jones and dropbron.

Guard i actually dont think the need is there even if Warford isnt resigned. Laken isnt good at all....but he'd compete with Dahl. And RG is LAkens natural position. Atleast we have bodies to cover. RT imo would be the more pressing need....depends if Reiff wants to resign as a RT or try to go make more money if a team will sign him as a LT.

As far as need goes...every pick should be a defensive pick. DE, rush DT, ATEAST 1 LB, CB are all immediate needs. S could be upgraded. Another LB could be upgraded.
