Lions plan to meet with Suh's Agent Next Week

what would the numbers be if they did sign him?

If they sign an extension nothing changes this year. If they do a restructure along with the extension then the cap number this year could drop. There are too many variables, but the lowest I could see his cap number would be around 17 million.

I see LKP has come around to my side.

I think it's funny that when he thought he would get an extension LKP was talking about how great of a move it would be by Mayhew to do an extension/restructure.

Now that it looks like the restructure won't happen LKP is talking how Great of a move it was by Mayhew not to sign/restructure. The guy can do no wrong in his eyes.

WTH are you talking about. Suh will be extended this offseason stilll. Trade is on the table for leverage. Worst case would be Lions getting a ton of cap space in 2015 and a 3rd rounder in 2016.

The thing about Suh going someplace else teams with SB aspirations usually don't sign guys making that much. So he might not end up in a place better than Detroit, as far as winning goes.

If they wanted to trade him.....seems Oakland would be a likely destination. They HAVE to spend money. They love guys like Suh. They have high picks.

Not saying it's going to happen....but seems a likely place if a trade was going to happen.

They'd be perfect. Regardless I don't seed a trade happening at all.

You joke but
Option 1 Re-signing a good player in Suh and get cap relief
Option 2 Trade Suh for high draft picsk and get cap relief and even more cap relief later
Option 3 Let him walk after using him in 2014 and get tons of cap space and a 3rd round pick

Mayhew can't go wrong unless he doesn't replace Suh well in 2015 and uses the cap space poorly.

suh for Watkins....done.

Do you go Dline at 10 or DB?

Its a good debate...

DE- I think the need is greater....but the value isn't quite there at 10. I don't think Barr is the best of fits and could be more suited for a 3-4 as an olb. hes still learning the position and was a RB as recent as 2 years ago. Other than him youd be reaching for guys like Dee Ford or Ealy. On the other hand I think youd have great value in rd 2 with guys like Crichton or Kareem Martin potentially available.

DB- Gilbert is the only corner we should be looking at in this draft. Hes the only potential upgrade over Houston and Slay. And I agree with you LKP....theres a good chance we wont even see that upgraded potential in year 1. Corner is a major adjustment once you get to the NFL. Slay is very similar to GIlbert and we all saw the struggles he had last year. Safety I still consider a reach at 10. HHCD and Pryor are great players....but I think were giving up value if you reach for need.

So DE need is greater but were kinda in no mans land with no one to pick. CB we have depth but not very good players....gilbert would be an upgrade butit might not be an immediate need per se. Safety is a big need....but HHCD or Pryor aren't top 10 guys imo. Trade down would still be my option....we have too many holes. If youre condiering a Watkins for suh deal to be real that would open up an immediate DT need as well. My best case scenario would be to trade down and target Hageman or Donald.

you can't possibly be serious

were debating hypotheticals cause were bored. Give us your take and offer some insight on your decision.....its a message board....use your imagination....come up with something on your own.

1 thing that Gilbert brings to the table over what we have now is his ability to locate and make a play on the ball when it is in the air. That alone might give him the nod over Houston who has as much ball skills as Stafford has pocket presence.

Gilbert's got better ball skills than a midget hooker.

I'm talking for weeks how you talked about a sun extension and restructure was a sure thing.

Example: LKP said "A Suh BIG extension gives 7-8 million in cap relief. Once you understand that then you will realize I am right. It's not a restructure, it's an extension." Or another "Suh extension looms for 7.5 million in space."

I said since the beginning an extension/restructure makes no sense, you told me it was the only way and essentially a done deal, Mayhew was too smart to not adjust his contract to get more cap space this year.

That is still the likeliest possibility to extend Suh this offseason. Now they can make year 2 the lowest cap hit. Even better for Mayhew. Free agency is only bargains left now.
