Lions Re-Sign Raiola 1 year Deal

good... that shores up the C position for a starter, now drafting depth/replacement becomes important, but less than it was

i figured he would resign. but in the 2-4th round they need to draft his successor

They can draft his successor sometime in the 4th-7th round, definitely not 2nd or 3rd round.

Totally agree. We got Warford in the 3rd and it's about time for the later part of our drafts to come through for us.

good resign. I wouldn't draft a center this year. focus on plugging holes elsewhere...draft one when he retires.

we're not drafting a center this year...we're just not. Just like last year and the year before and the year before and the year before all the way back to Dom.

I think it's still worth looking into, maybe a versatile interior lineman in the later rounds. The Lions were fortunate that Dom and both guards played almost every snap (if not all).

They need to bring someone in, I don't really care where they get him (3rd+) ideally if they can get a guy in 6th to UDFA and stash him in on the PS it would be ideal. Get a guy that they can develop, let him get a year in the system and a year in the weight room by mid season he should be able to step in and contribute at G-C if we have an injury.

Yeah, they need to draft somebody. Dom is getting older, and can't defy nature forever. Sooner or later we'll need someone to step in for him for a few games or maybe permanently. This last year they paid for a veteran back-up (something like 1-2 mil if I remember correctly), and they simply should not be investing that much money on a guy that is only going to see the field in an emergency.

Also, drafting a later round guy this year will allow him to learn some things from Dom before he's gone. Yeah, we have coaches for that, but players who have done it successfully on the field can often get the ear of young guys more effectively than some coach who hasn't played above Ju-Co ball.

in my mock i had one i blieve in the 4th round. not a bad spot to pick and have Raiola groom him.

you guys are very concerned about a backup center lol. That's like # 190 on my list of things im concerned about on this team.

That's typically the type of guys you get in rounds 4-7. Would be nice to pull year one starters out of those rounds but it isn't likely.

just think we have a lot of positions that have rotational needs and we have no depth for yet. DE for example. We like to rotate our DEs yet Jason jones is a likely cap casualty, and willie young and idonije are FAs. So devin taylor is ready to be a starter? and we have 0 depth behind him? Id put that as a need before a back up center that never sees the field. Id put WR depth infront of back up center (probably 2 wrs before id think about center) Id put starting safety need over back up center. Tackle depth depending on FA over center. LB depth id put over back up center. Theres a lot of things id put over back up center :D

I want a DE not later than the second. There are some really good ones out there that will fall right into our pocket *cough* Dee Ford, Stephon Tuitt.

True they definitely need another DE, one that can rush the passer. Think about this between Suh, Fairley, and Ansah they had 19.5 sacks. The rest of the D-Line? They combined for 6, that`s pathetic. Delmas and Quinn alone combined for 4.

That's what i'm saying lol. But since we're talking about it. Can Rodney Austin step into the C role? Don't know much about him but people on this board really seem to like the kid. I don't really think he'll be playing Guard anytime soon for the Lions.
