Lions want to interview

The guys that have left the Patriots haven't had that much success. Thomas Dimitroff is always on the hot seat in Atlanta and his butt buddy there Scott Piloli got unceremoniously tossed from the Chiefs. Jason Licht is with the Bucs right now, his future will be forever tied to Jameis, so we'll see how that works out.

Its a little disheartening that we hire this accorsi douche months ago.....and the best we can do on day 1 when we should be interviewing is have 2 names of people that we WANT to interview. 1 of which I never heard of and turned us down lol. An XFL guy that played for the Detroit drive turned us down to even INTERVIEW lmao. Nice Accorsi....nice.

You've never heard of Bob Quinn? Bill Belichick himself said that "Bob" was the one of if not the best scout he has ever had.

I mean the guy could be shit as a GM. But Patriots do draft well. This Trent Kirchner guy I don't ever remember hearing his name before tbh.

Scary name that is in the mix is Chris Polian. I like him, drafts well. But, is also a friend of Jim Caldwell....

Honestly I think the Patriots can attribute their success more to coaching than talent. I'm not down on the guy, just pointing out that other Pats execs haven't been an overwhelming success elsewhere. Piloli at the top of that list.

You think the Colts drafted well?

The patriots have a culture and process that is the way the nfl is supposed to work. They get numerous picks through good trades. With the sheer amount of picks they have they can afford for half of them to never work out. They groom the ones that stick. And when I say stick they resign their own. Then they trade the veteran players and get value from them as well.

We don't draft well at all....piss picks away year after year for mid round "talent" that usually never develops. The only guy weve kept thru multiple contracts without a crazy extension is levy. Our guys with any value have such crazy contracts that no one can ever trade for them to get any value in return.

Gee....which one would you think would work best in todays NFL?

He turned EVERYONE down for interviews. Same as he did last year.

I get being upset, but quit trying to spin everything to support your being upset. There's enough REAL things to be upset about with this team without making shit up or making it sound worse than it actually is.

The faster they hire a GM the faster we can know whats happening with our coaching staff. Potential coaches are already in the process of interviewing with other teams. So if the new GM would like a new coach....were missing out on the opportunity. Its day 1 of being able to INTERVIEW for the open GM position. Not hire.....not talk to......not 2nd interview. The faaster you get some interviews done the better. And if we paid this douche to work on this for the past couple months....excuse me for not wanting some urgency. Even our douchebag president that know nothing about football said he wants this done quickly lol. No, I did not expect a hire today....thatd be ridiculous...yes I expected a couple people to be lined up for interviews. but instead....were the lions....so all we get is a couple of reports of people that turned us down and people we might be interested in....maybe....depending...sometimes...

Why are you circling your arguments around again? Everything you said has ZERO to do with that fact that the guy you pointed out turned US down, turned down EVERYONE.

You tried to make it sound so dire, like this guy who wants to move up would do it anywhere but here, and when someone points out that for two straight years he has politely declined any and all interviews.. you start arguing that you want to see a GM hired quickly so we know whats going on.

Well, fuck yeah you do... we all do. And that position is correct. The sooner they get a GM, the sooner we know about coaches, and if we're going to go in a new direction at all, the better our chance to land a good coach before they are all gone.

But none of that changes that you twist everything up to make this team sound even more inept than it already actually is, and you do it all the time.

Pettigrew.

I want a GM hire quickly as well but their was pretty much no chance it was going to happen today.

I'm not circling anything. Yes. ..i find it inept that we hired someone to do a job and what we got today was nothing. I found it hysterical that the only news on our gm search today was:

Some guy turned us down
We have an interest in some guy

Call me unimpressed. And call me not surprised.

I'll be on board if we don't hear something about an interview tomorrow. I mean Shanahan is working on his 2nd interview, Austin apparently has something set up with the Browns, Colts signed their coach to an extension.

I get it might take a few days or a week to make an offer but they'd had people looking for available GM's forever. I get where "Hughes is coming from in that regard.

Personally, im thrilled that the Dallas guy rejected the Lions interview request....Fuck Dallas and that entire organization. I do not want anyone who 'learned the ropes' from Mr. LoveBus Jerry Jones....HARD PASS on that

I was going to post this yesterday in response to Coughlin but never got around to it, here it is anyway.

I don't think you can just insert anyone at GM. Coaching and developing the players that you're given is not necessarily in the same realm as scouting/spotting talent and running an organization. I'm sure many are capable of doing a satisfactory job (and some have). Whether it be an assistant executive or veteran coach, I think anyone without GM experience should be viewed with the same risk.

I'd say chances are good that the Lions hire someone without GM experience, it's just how the majority of GM hires turn out these days (I'm actually curious to know the success rate of retread GMs). Good GMs usually stick around with the same team for a while and former GMs are usually out of a job for a reason (either personal or performance-related).

I've said it before, I'm less concerned with the individual hired as GM and more concerned with who they surround themselves with. I'm no NFL front office expert, but like most businesses, having a top notch support network will likely lead to long-term success.

No way man. The Fords are not good owners by any stretch of the imagination, but id still take them over (current) Jerry Jones, who thinks he can run the entire franchise himself...

Fords and Jerry Jones are essentially polar opposites when it comes to running a team. Good owners are in the middle somewhere...

At least he has some SB under his belt.

I could not agree more with this. That's how a good business runs.

When John Sculley took over Apple in it's early days, he was the president of Pepsi. Selling pop and selling computers aren't even remotely similar.

But he had the knowledge of how to run a company, and he put together a support staff that could give him their best advice, and Apple took off.

Gil Amelio on the other hand was a brilliant "tech guy" who didn't know much about running a company, and brought Apple 30 days from insolvency.

A good leader doesn't have to know THE business, they have to know business. Ron Wood was a good hire based on his resume and experience in business. I am confident he will make a good hire at GM, even if the guy is very wet behind the ears. Even if the guy is Sheldon White.

The new GM will have the task of making a decision with the coaching staff. Hopefully, they get that right, whether it's Caldwell or someone else.

I am not in favor of change for the sake of sake. I am in favor of change for the better only.

You'd take the Fords over someone who has won three Superbowls, and gone to the playoffs a ton? VS what we have here? Come on man. I don't like the guy either, but that's cooky talk.
