LMAO @ MikeandMike

There was a post about it above, and it's been reported that the police are saying they were never contacted by McQueery

Well, like I said, assuming the record in the grand jury hearings is a true account of what happened, sounds like McQueary and Paterno did the bare minimum here to fulfill their legal obligations under the PA statute. They reported the matter to their superiors, who then had a legal duty to report it to the designated authorities (I think the state police? not sure who was in the law).

I think it's clear that by society's standards he didn't do enough. What would be enough... I can't say. If the university admins, police, and coach all ignored him... I guess he could go to the press.

At that point, he'd be a "whistleblower" and would himself become a target, as Sandusky et al, maybe even the university would have to attack him to protect themselves. that would've ended his career at PennSt.

that's a tough path; few people when faced with it, actually walk it. It's unquestionably the RIGHT path... I guess, I wouldn't expect a guy like him to be a saint.

I would expect him to at the very least RESIGN somewhere along the way and go coach for someone else. Like... he had no problem in the long run coaching for a program that would cover up for a guy like Sandusky to protect themselves at the expense of kids.

I have a feeling the cover up is going to include some very high ranking PA officials and that Paterno's reputation will be forever linked to covering for his pedophile friend.

I know, maybe the police dpt is who is covering this thing up. WE don't really know at this point.

I think it's possible. The guy that disappeared when the 1st reported case wasn't prosecuted couldn't have been the only one with the police that knew.

according to the grand jury's report... that DA set up the sting with the police. The police were the ones who confronted Sandusky with the recording in which he admitted it! This was '98-'99.

So yes, some members of the PD there definitely knew.

Whether or not McQueary contacted them directly is a different story.
