LOL - heartwarming Manti Teo girlfriend dying story was a hoax

Ok, now that I've slept on it and had a chance to read the various reports online, talked it over with my wife, maybe we need to give him the benefit of the doubt here. My wife suggested he has had a psychotic break, maybe he's schizo (which often starts showing signs at his age). Maybe from playing LB, he's had a few too many hits to the head and they've accumulated in damage to the point where he isn't in his right mind.

Na, he's just a fucking lying douche from Notre Shame, carrying on their version of tradition.

If they were internet lovers Chris Hanson will have the chat logs and will read them as awkwardly as possible to make everyone laugh uncomfortably.

If there's one thing we can all learn from it is this:

Never make up a fake girlfriend and lie to the World about it to gain sympathy and Heisman votes! Because if you do, god will get angry and kill your grandma.

This isn't just meeting someone and falling in love. First, I have a hard time believing a group of people would plan and conspire a 3-year hoax just for the F of it. Second, Te'o said that they met several times, first at Stanford, and she visited his home at Hawii. Third, he went through GREAT lengths to create her backstory. Tuiasosopo created this girl, Te'o ran with it. There is just too much evidence against him.

Catfish documentary interview. If that's what this is, apparently it isn't an entirely isolated incident.

These people at least go and find out the truth. They don't allow the national media to post pictures of a person, for five months, they have never seen in their life and say she is their dead girlfriend.

Te'o saw the picture they used for his fake girlfriend over and over and he went along with it. Clearly showing that he was a major part of this bullshit story the whole time. That girl in the pictures has already came out and said she has never met or talked to Te'o. So clearly the person he met, was not the girl in the pictures. He is just an asshole full of bullshit and now he is trying to save face.

Yep and now he's trying to play the victim in order to save face. It isn't working.

so... this is a college football first! under Kelly, Notre Dame football has a real and imaginary body count...

also, if there were rankings for "Incompetent damage control" or "Bad press relations department" Notre Dame would have just vaulted into the Top 5. (they seemed to have handled all the previous scandals with a cool efficiency, evil disregard for human life, and black humor... getting away with the Declan Sullivan & Lizzy Seeberg matters without any lingering effects)

here's my rankings:

#1 Penn state
#2 ohio
#3 Notre Dame
#4 USC (?)
#5 Oregon...?

Online is not for long term relationships.

Strictly for tawdry local sexual hookups; one and done.

Unless she wants to invite her girlfriend to the next one - then it's OK.

At least two other Domers talked to the girl that didn't exist on the phone. The team is surprised to hear this. One Domer is confused and wants to knoe what Te'o knew. Some Domers are now suspicious of how profound Te'o's relationship was.

aslo, that story links to this:
http://everyfacetofthegame.blogspot.com/2013/01/catfished.html
tweets between people that knew it was a hoax

we discussed at lunch. coworker who said "you're a Michigan guy, so you're biased" told us that he believed Te'o was duped, but went along with the story himself because it allowed him to explain away why he wasn't out assaulting women around campus with the rest of the team... but this same coworker it turns out admitted he didn't know all the facts, and didn't know that Te'o earlier claimed to have met her in person.

the rest of us are convinced Te'o was more or less in on it from the get-go. he's lied and changed the facts enough to call into question his claim that he had a sincere belief she existed. he claimed he met her in person, he claimed they talked on the phone, he claimed they never met, he claimed it was online only, the dates never match up, and different parties cite different dates in the media.

the only ones to benefit were Te'o... and to a lesser extent the team, since they had a nice motivational story to go along with their season, and Kelly was handing out gameballs to Te'o based on it.

I don't see anyone else's motivation for carrying on such an elaborate hoax for that long, except for some sort of irrational hatred of Te'o or obsessive compulsive behavior by that Tuiasosopo creep. if punking him was the goal, why did it go on for three years? (that 45-38 loss @ Stanford where he claimed they met was in 2009). WHO did he actually meet? Why didn't the guys punking him reveal it publicly to get some laughs?

ND's and Te'o's "explanations" raise more questions than they answer, and Occam's Razor is hanging... waiting to slice...

I think despite Swarbrick's claims they had known about this and investigated it in December, he's full of it. this caught them completely blindsided. If Te'o really was the victim, why not just come out and say it back then? they sat on this coincidentally until Deadspin broke the story? I don't believe it.

A lot points to Te'o being in on it, but I don't think it's case closed yet. Especially if it can be shown that Tuisosopo has done this to other people before. In that case, I could believe that Te'o was a victim who may have figured things out at some point and then tried to assist in the lie to avoid the embarrassing explanation. It would certainly help to explain why stories didn't match up if Te'o wasn't collaborating with Tuisosopo; just trying independently to bury the story and maintain the fiction.

The whole thing just stinks. There's just too much evidence against him. He keeps saying he developed a relationship with someone online, and there are people who are pranking him. WHO?? He keeps saying THEM. WHO? They don't exist. He sent flowers to a fake destination. There was no car crash. He's a lying sack of shit, and in five years, he'll have his Lance Armstrong moment, and admit they him and Tuiasosopo created a character.

I keep coming back to some Big Lebowski quotes:

"The story is ludicrous."

"[he's] most certainly the perpetrator and not the victim."

it's like... some people keep losing sight of the fact that there never was a girl... yet Te'o himself claimed to have met her!

Champ, that's the biggest hitch in his story. He TOLD the South Bend newspaper they met at 2009, and she visited his place in Hawaii several times. I read the article last night, and then ironically, an hour later, it was taken down.
