I think that was a joke, tbone.
And I just heard the guy from Deadspin on LA sports radio -- basically it's not a "hoax" and the only questions remaining are:
To what extent Te'o was involved - was he just complicit or was it his idea
To what extent ND was involved - did they let the media run with it because it benefitted ND
Why? Why the hell do something like this and why is Tuiasosopa so freaking weird?
Actually right after. I posted my response I realized it was prob a joke, but I was on my phone at the time and it wouldn't let me edit the post.
But anyways,
I think that this was 100% on Te'o and the only thing the school did "incorrectly" was not break the news to the media back in the 26th of Dec. when they found out. I put incorrectly in parenthesis because I don't think ND was in the wrong by not telling the media about the hoax. This is not NDs story, and they have no obligation, or right to speak to the media.
This is Te'os story, and it's up to him to explain to people WTF is going on. I've been trying to think of a reason why someone would not only make up that he had a GF, but subsequently say she died by Leukimia. I don't buy that he made it up to bolster his heisman chances, as he started talking about her way back in 2010. He wasnt even a blip on the national radar at that point. Even when he said she "died" in October, he wasnt even close to being mentioned as a heisman finalist..
Therefore, I think that he is gay. Out of all the reasons one would have to make up such a fucked up story, being gay makes the most sense..
He pretended that he had a GF, then said that the pretend GF died. Now he can say he doesn't want to date anyone since he is still distraught over her death. He probably hoped that it would be a story for a week or so and then blow over. However he went on to have an all time great season by a linebacker, and ND Started 12-0, so the story blew up. Now he's trying to save face by saying it was a hoax and he had nothing to do with it..I call BS
