Mad Max Trade Value

They only get a draft pick if they make a Qualifying Offer and he refuses.

DD has let others walk (i.e. Polanco) without receiving picks.

Right...there is no doubt that they would make him a qualifying offer at the end of 2014.

So he could suck in 2014 and you would want Detroit to make the $15 Mil, one year, Qualifying Offer?

I guess anything could happen. He could get hit by a bus tomorrow too. What I am saying is if pitches well next year they will make a qualifying offer. My opinion is that they should trade him. If he does suck I will be really pissed that they didn't trade him while his value was at it's peak.

Bottom line. They trade him now, they can actually get something for him. If they do not resign him and only make a Qualify Offer and he turns it down, they only get a supplemental pick for him.

1. I do not want them to sign him to a long contract

2. I do not want just a supplemental pick for him

3. I want them to get "at least" a starting 2B or LF, that is under team control for 3 or more years.

That is exactly what I want them to do. I looked up the two guys that you talked about with the Nats. While I think they should get more I would be satisfied if both ended up being very good players. If the Nats threw in a very young starting pitching prospect I would be all on board with a trade like that.

I want new players under team control for awhile too. Now, I know nothing about the Nats rookie 2B but just solely going on 1st year numbers, they don't give the warm and fuzzies. I don't see him "..as someone who can draw a walk and lead off." There's just not enough information. He seems average in the field.

The RP is nice but I'm not sure it adds enough value. And coming from the NL to AL, a bit of adjustment.

If it came down to where the Tigers would lose him after 2014, I would do it. But my first choice would be to resign him. Unless we got a bigger package. And that's hard to say, I want a payroll like TB or Pittsburgh have. But at this point, its like "well the payroll is 150m, what's an extra 20.

I thinks that's what MI is thinking too. He wants his WS. The down fall to that is you can't have a Marlins type fire-sale afterward because we'd have un-tradeable contracts.

Might not have thought it back then but Prince might have screwed the future with his enormous contract.

You couldn't be more right Reb. Rendon will hit better than Zimmerman and Harper. Obviously won't have Harper's power and Clippard is one of the best relievers in the NL

Rendon is a star waiting to happen, barring injuries.

Clippard is a top 5 reliever. Neither are names YOU recognize, but doesn't make them any less valuable.

I watched a lot of nationals games this year Rendon would be a great pick up for 2nd base. He tailed off a little bit towards the end of the year, but he was banged up. When healthy he is Ryan Zimmerman 2.0.

Clippard would be perfect for the eith inning or even a good closer. I still think we might be able to get one more bullpen arm from the Nationals. They actually have a surplus in the bullpen of good young arms.

That's the big problem, if he's healthy. And since college he has shown he's not. And it's not even close.

Bowden wrote an article just this last week with potential David Price trades. As a former Cy Young winner, around the same age, these are good starting points. Price of course has two years left under team control, meaning he is a little more valuable in a trade.

There were a few names I liked who would benefit the Tigers:
Jurickson Profar (Texas), Oscar Taveras (St. Louis), and Joc Pederson (L.A. Dodgers)

Profar would be our our long term 2B, and despite a mediocre rookie season still has loads of talent that may show better when he can stay at one position every day.

Taveras and Pederson are outfielders that both could play next year. Taveras is an elite hitter, while Pederson is an on-base machine.

Taveras cannot take a walk, so I prefer Pederson. Pederson will be the bigger star and will be a 20/20 or 30/30 player some day.

Before anyone trades Scherzer. Better take a look at what value he has to the Tigers! Max pitched 214.1 innings with 240 K's. That works out to 240 outs out of 643 he pitched, for a 37.3% of the outs the Tiger D did not have to field. Fielder and Cabrera will not get better at the corners. Those 240 outs will be hard to replace.

You also have to consider the possiblity of only getting a draft pick for him. The smart thing to do for the long term success of the franchise is to trade him for young ML players that will help the success next year and down the road. My guess is Mr I isn't thinking about the long term success of this franchise.

I didn't realize MI was 115 years old..

I get trading Scherzer...but trading both him and Porcello?

Damn, if Smyly doesn't work out as a starter after trading Max it could be bad, but how are we going to replace 2 starters traded away? It's unlikely we get a MLB ready/capable arm in return outside of what we would be targeting by trading them in the first place. I don't want Ortega, Crosby, or Alvarez in our rotation next year.

I think the only way we move Scherzer right now is if someone bowls us over with an offer. I could definitely see us trading Porcello or Fister for a decent offer and moving Smyly into the empty rotation spot though.

Unless we get crazy value for Max that we can't turn down, he'll be here until at least the summer trading deadline.
