Maddon Cubs, Hurdle Pirates, Ausmus angels, Callaway mets, Kapler Phillies fired

You'll be surprised or maybe you won't on how many managers stick to a pitch count.

Mickey Callaway fired by Mets. Maybe this should be the "Managers Fired" thread.

Tigers fired Les Moss in '79, despite his familiarity with most of the players whom he coached in the minors, and having won Manager of the Year honors after the previous season, and while having a winning record up to that point 53 games in. They hired Sparky Anderson, who had been pink-slipped by the Cinci Reds.

Obviously the Tigers brass was of the opinion that if they didn't grab him right away, then another ballclub most certainly would before them.

If a manager has no impact on the team that he leads, then why did the Tigers FO claim that they felt Anderson could do what Moss could not, allegedly being more of a fiery disciplinarian who could quickly whip the Tigers into contenders?

I was at Moss's last game as a manager. 3-1 win over OAK. Morris vs. McCatty. It made imminent sense to Get Sparky. Odd that he was fired in November of 1978 and did not catch on with another team until the middle of June, 1979.

David Heyman reports that David Ross is hired as Cubs' manager.

I think he could pretty much name his price and team. Why in the world would he want to go to the Mets?

He had two interviews. Did some diligence. Considered them as a post-season team. And declined.
