Malik Mcdowell

Is that 4 of 5 or 5 of 6 years we pulled the top player in the state?

McDowell, Thomas, Gholston, Burbridge. Who else?

Word is Malik is not faxing his LOI today, he and his father signed it, and that's all he would have needed, but I think he might take one last stab at getting his mother on board. So he is simply an MSU verbal until that LOI is faxed.

More drama.

Edit: He lives with his dad, so whether his mom signs it doesn't matter, this kid is Green, he committed with the support of his father and he sacrificed a lot to do it. There is a near zero chance that will change.

Good class overall. Hopefully we can hang onto Slade, I meant it when I said I like him as much as I like McDowell. Slade will be a star IMO.

Per Twitter his Dad seemed to leak State ....

But LOL at this thread!!! Choosing any other school but State because of academics would be hilarious.

Especially given requirements for entrance are easier at FSU and OSU :p

I think highly ranked football players talking about academics is stupid either way. these guys will get a degree and some alumni will hire them.

Hand talking about engineering at UM is hilarious, my cousin who's really smart took 5 years to graduate with an engineering degree because it was so intense and she wasn't an athlete

Ohh its a joke with no support. UM Avg incoming freshman is 3.75 MSU 3.62 ACT UM 29 MSU 26 MAMMOTH DIFFERENCE. I thinks its more comical to see UM students visit MSU and marvel at what an attractive girl looks like knowing they are the furthest thing from that girls mind :spin:

I would have given him a 10% chance on a verbal a few days ago.

Good for MSU in landing McDowell. Wanted him to stay home and play in B1G. If it wasn't going to be Columbus, I wanted it to be East Lansing. Yet another indication that the balance of football power has well and truly shifted in the state of Michigan.

Word is that Cage and Harrell may be silent commits already.

This has been an interesting cycle. We got some highly ranked players whatever that means, but think about this: We flipped the top player in Wisconsin from Wisky in Evans. We flipped Darius Slade from Nebraska when Urban was going hard after him too. We have a 50-50 chance to flip a top 60 OT from OSU and Urban today. McDowell was a lock for U of M for months and we flipped him to us even though he likely won't come here now, he's not going to Michigan either.

I can't remember MSU doing this type of damage to their rival(Michigan) and the main B1G competition in Nebraska, Wisky, and OSU.

Well we didn't flip Jones and in the process Urban flipped his second big MSU commit by getting Slade. If Malik ends up sending that fax somewhere else this class suddenly looks a lot different.

And hey Daniel Cage, have fun playing for the most overrated coach in CFB, losing 4 or 5 games a year and hanging out with ugly chicks for the next 4 years...

you may or may not be right about your first two points on cage but i can guarantee that you're right on the 3rd one

As for Malik, he sounds like a really mature kid, a lot more mature than I was at 17. it stinks that he has to go through it but it will all work out for him.

ND still pulls recruits as if its pre 1994!?!? They have won 2 Bowl games in 20 years (champs and sun bowl) Hard to understand. How do you have a top 10 recruiting class almost every year and do nothing?

you'd have to thin at some point the recruiting is affected by their record. their brand is strong though

There is also such a thing as the ND premium - ND starts talking to a 3 star kid and all of a sudden he's a 4 star. Clearly that isn't happening with everyone as they get a lot of elite kids but it definitely helps with their overall class ranking

The McDowell saga just gets weirder. The mother's dislike for MSU is simply irrational.

A few interesting things.....

He can't sign an LOI on his own without a parent or legal guardian also signing until he's 21, not just 18.

The mom is the custodial parent in this situation and her signature is required on the LOI.

He could reserve his spot in MSU's class of 2014 by signing a Big Ten Tender and having "a parent" also sign. The dad could do this and bypass mom completely.

Lastly, Malik could register for classes at MSU and sign the Big Ten tender after the first day of class without a parent also signing. There would be out of pocket cost though, at least initially if he chose to enroll early for summer courses.

His mom sounds like a piece of crap... I know the guy is the number 1 guy in the state but maybe there is to much drama with him to keep him?

Save the drama for yo mama

it's starting to sound like he might take some unofficial visits to FSU and OSU, maybe michigan.

I know he is open to taking some unofficials to Florida State and Ohio State," Greg McDowell said. "We plan on doing some unofficials and see if he and his mom can resolve this. It's possible she'll be open to Michigan State as well, so we'll have to see -
