Masahiro Tanaka

Twins are interested but not us... Not that we need a starting pitcher but it would be nice to see the Tigers branch out to the Rising Sun area...

Too big of a gamble. These guys are great facing sub-MLB quality hitters. DiceK was supposed to be an ace, and flamed out fast.

They need a better system to bring Japanese talent to MLB without the ridiculous posting fee's and blank check free agency for guys who have never faced top tier hitters.

Gamble? How so, you don't have to give up any players or draft picks to get him. Just money. Think about how many average pitchers out there make 10 mil a year. He will better than average easily unless he get's hurt. He is going to be a good one. He has some freakish stuff from what I have seen.

Just money? You have to put up $25 million just to get the rights to sign him to a contract, that's more than Verlander, Hernandez, Weaver, or Sabathia make in a year. Then on top of that he gets to ask for basically whatever he wants for a contract. No starting at peanuts and having to prove himself in the big leagues, then going through arbitration raises only, until he becomes a free agent like almost every other pitcher. This guy could end up making more next season than Scherzer, or Kershaw did last season. So yeah, it's a gamble.

And like I pointed out, DiceK had freakish stuff and everyone thought he would be an ACE for years too.

I'd still like to see what Darvish does in 2014. Dice K. was dominate year 2 as well.

I would just like the Tigers to be opened minded about players from Japan.. Money is money but when has that ben a issue with Mike..

MEH...14 Quality Starts out of 29 is hardly being dominate. His other stats might have looked great, but he lacked stamina.

19 of his 29 starts, BOS scored at least 5 runs. BOS was 17-2 in his starts where they scored 5 runs or more, 6-4 in the other games.

14 of his 18 wins were when the team scored 5 runs or more.

Unhittable is a pretty strong word out on a very thin limb for a guy who has never faced MLB caliber hitters.

Lots of pitches had been called unhittable before, Rivera's cutter, Zito's curveball, Santana's slider, good hitters still hit them.

There is no doubt Tanaka has talent, but real hitters (MLB hitters), are not going to have as hard of a time as the guys in Japan.

I guess it didn't open up like some thought with the new "reasonable" posting system.

Aaron Steen of MLB Trade Rumors translated the original report and tells us the five teams involved are the Arizona Diamondbacks, Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees.

What I read about this Tanaka kid was he has much better control than dice k.

The caveat is the number of innings he has pitched at a young age.

Thumb iirc it's $20Million?

I saw a Twitter (rumor) Cubs were at 160m - 8 years. But the wife is a singer so maybe they pick NYY or Dodgers..

The Tigers were the first team that tried to sign Ichiro and they almost had him till the Mariners came in late and the price got to high and we backed out.

The problem with this, is it really a fact?

I would need a link or verifiable proof. Otherwise it is hearsay, rumor or just plain untrue.

What's wrong with hearsay, rumor or just plain untrue?
