Masahiro Tanaka

The problem with this, is it really a fact?

I would need a link or verifiable proof. Otherwise it is hearsay, rumor or just plain untrue.

Sarcasm translates so poorly in text. I need to use the cool emoticons more.

I rarely root for an individual player to suck but in this case I hope Tanaka is terrible! The Yankees basically are paying him $25M a year based on his success in Japan. You can pretty much bet that is what Max will want.

These foreign players should go through the draft. That is an insane number for someone who has never pitched for an mlb team.

No kidding. The new system, max 20m bids still take out most teams because they knew they have to dish out a fortune afterwards.

Yeah the bad thing about this signing is it will undoubtedly increase the value Max will reach on the open market if indeed he hits the open market.

yeah, say goodbye to max after this year. i still wish we'd traded him rather than fister.

Well, that really depends on the retard-haul DD would have given him up for.

And I can't say I'm at all surprised Tanaka went to NYY. I figured it would be there or the Cubs, and since he gets to choose....

Plus, I imagine Ichiro is one of his idols.

You guys act like we're scared to spend money. Has this team given you any reason to think we're worried about contracts? No, I think what they're concerned about is paying players like Fielder that aren't producing up to expectations.

How about Fister? Anyway you spin it had to about money or else why trade him..?

Bullshit. Fielder was here 2 years. One of those years was above average, and one was just below average. People have such short attention spans, it's like they think the only time Fielder was here was the ALCS.

Also, we did diddly in the free agent market, despite the fact that our team had so many holes you could use it to drain pasta. I think it's pretty clear they are rolling back the spending.

fucking yankees.

i hope they finish last this year.

Thank ARod for saving the Yankees the posting fee...so much for staying under the Luxury Tax threshold...not that I believed that they really would.

Yankees likely weren't going to stand for the Red Sox possibly dominating the AL East for a while and the baseball headlines in the postseason, while they struggle to finish ~.500 much less clinch a WC berth, they already have 2 more World Series wins in this century.

Fielder had been mostly a cipher in the postseason, but the Tigers still needed his LH power bat in the regular season. Had they signed Choo, then I would have figured that they still wanted to spend beaucoup $$$ while preparing for the departure of VMart and/or Hunter after next season (although one or both "might" be resigned or extended for another season.. if they perform well and are amenable to it)

But...Scherzer and Cabrera still need to be dealt with, if the Tigers plan to retain one or both...so maybe they are trying to curb spending $$$ in anticipation of shelling out big big bucks to extend and/or resign them.

As is they might still be able to draw very well @ CoPa, but if they fall short of the postseason...or worse flop and lose Scherzer, Hunter and VMart to FA... then fill their positions with Ray+scrubs...well...'15 could be a slightly different story, attendance-wise.

When the Old Man passes, I anticipate a more austere approach to assembling a team.
