Day appears to be on the verge of adding Michigan defensive line coach Greg Mattison to his staff and is also courting Wolverines linebackers coach Al Washington. Sam Webb of 247Sports.com confirmed the Buckeyes' addition of Mattison, whose role at Ohio State has yet to be determined.

He coached at ND also. Is it really that much of a shock? Coaches come and go he Probably was offered a lot more money and maybe he was run off by Jim. Who knows what happen . ..Maybe Brown and Mattison were arguing about slant patterns lol..

It's surprising because people thought he was close enough to retirement age and living close enough to family that he'd stay put until he was done coaching.

still... weird he'd go there NOW.

Friction with Don Brown?

He's pretty much legendary when it comes to recruiting.

the dumbass "dame" fan around here said Mattison was "sleazy" on the recruiting trail when UM first hired him. Guess that is okay when he's sleazy on behalf of one's own team.

maybe, or with Harbaugh. Harbaugh is a really good coach but it seems that he has had a pattern of wearing out his welcome. It certainly happened in SF. A 70-year-old man...they usually don't put up with too much shit.

My guess is he left for more money or got sick of Harbaugh. Just a guess though.

Sounds like he wasn't going to get renewed on Jan 10th.

I guess he didn't want to retire

He is going go to OSU as the DC.

People are going to panic at this, but I'm not. Everyone talking about how the d-line underperformed, people like Gary didn't live up to potential, etc are now complaining about Mattison leaving.

Yeah, I hear he is a good recruiter, but there are other good recruiters out there.

I agree he probably had some friction with Brown and Jim and maybe felt under appreciated at Michigan. Not sure why this doesn’t bother me like it should. I agree when has the dline dominate a game verses a top ten club? Oh yeah 1-9. I’m not worried about recuriting..

I don't think there's any bad blood between Mattison and the Harbaugh family.

To OSU is a dick move, no ifs, ands, or buts. Fuck'em, the dline was supposed to be what got us over the hump in big games, it failed miserably. No pressure against ND, OSU, and UF was tragic to go along with big time QB runs for 1st downs that wiped out long 3rd downs.

Yep, D-line did great against less talented teams. It wasn't that great against top 10 teams.

Yeah yeah Gary was hurt, Winovich was hurt, etc etc etc

OK. I'm confident that Michigan can go out and get a good replacement.

Don't bother.

Well, I care, but only because there will be more to this story now.

Who else is leaving Michigan?

Who is coming to coach at Michigan?

Things are getting interesting.

Did another coach leave ? Heard the back end of something on the radio . Linebacker coach ? Someone else?
