Mayhew Speaks

It's called desperation. And what a foul smelling cologne it is.

Maybe so. They know they got a year. Why give away talent. They didn't give up on Fairley and LeShoure after 2 mess ups and it actually helped the Lions especially Fairley.

It's basically one draft that is messing up the character view of the Lions. 2011 Mayhew gambled and now he's dealing with it. I do like how he did wise up and took high character guys in Reiff and Broyles. Just plain bad luck with Broyles OTHER knee though.

What talent? Young is as big a disappointment on the field as he is off.

Not in 2011 he wasn't a disappointment. Not in the Seattle game. He's shown enough to keep around on a cheap deal. But if they cut him so be it, everyone will understand.

Now's the talking season anyway, if you are going to trade him even for a future 7th you talk him up like he's changed.

I see your point but who the hell would trade for him at this point.

You never know. Who would gives up a 1st and 3rd for Roy Williams. Heck Cincy loves those type of guys because they can handle them. PacMan Jones is still on that team. TO was on a team every year. Burress was back with Pittsburgh. Vick got a second chance after jail time. JAIL TIME!!! Lining up wrong and yelling at a coach for reasons we don't know, well Mayhew may be able to forgive that or if not trade him to someone who thinks they can handle that.

His rookie year was damn good for a rookie. He had a bad year, get over it.

You are talking like he set the world on fire. He accounted for 600 of 5000 yards and 6 of 49 tds...but there was reason for hope. This year he was given every opportunity and tanked on and off the field, spectacularly. 300 yards in ten games? Nothing changes if nothing changes, and it smacks of desperation.

All those guys were pro bowlers.

600 yards 6 TDs is good for a rookie WR used as a 3rd WR deep threat. Titus definitely made plays to help us win games. Big TD against Oakland i nthe comeback, long TD against Minnesota, 2 in the shootout in GB, big catch against Vikings in the comeback, hail Mary catch against Titans, 2 TDS against Seattle including the game winner.

Calvin had what 700 his first year and less TDs than Titus. Titus showed promise and then had a bad year. If he's on the team still, he'll get a great chance to respond with a healthy knee opposite Calvin. If he's cut or traded so be it, back to the drawing board for the burner WR.

Not their first or second years other than Vick

From a interest perspective, was what we were discussing. By the time they were picked up by other teams each had a pro bowl nod under there belt.

And somebody might have some interest especially if they already have leadership and WR depth. You never know. They get a very cheap contract for 2 years and they do get some talent. But I'm talking 5th-7th round here. It's still something. No rock unturned

You can't compare The offense CJ played in his rookie year with Young. You would trade Young for Cobb or Smith in a heartbeat, we took the wrong guy and he is a tool to boot. With proven gms out there only the Fords wouldn't fire this idiot, although that being said only the Fords would hire the assistant of the worst GM in the history of pro sports in the first place.

I get that. I just don't see it being very likely, and outweighs the statement that can be made by an outright cut.

Mayhew had made plenty of other good moves for me to not want to fire Mayhew because of the 2011 draft. Especially with Fairley and LeShoure redeemig themselves.

Stafford, Pettigrew, Delmas, Sims,Chris Houston trade and re-sign, Shaun Hill trade and re-sign, Corey Williams trade, Tulloch and re-sign, Durant, Best for 21 games helping a 2011 playoff berth, Suh, Fairley, LeShoure, Reiff, Broyles, Joique Bell, re-signing Backus(1 sack in 727 attempts) make me want to keep Mayhew around.

Who's going to turn on us within the roster because we keep Young. Not anyone else on that offense. LeShoue and Fairely know they are on his last chance and they have made the best of things. The remaining high characters guys, I don't think so. They saw him get sent home a million times and will see him get cut if he acts up even in the slightest. If they wanted to make a statement he should have been cut not IRed. It's too late for a statement.

Stephen Peterman, Titus Young, Derrick Williams, safety depth(though very bad luck with Delmas/spievey injuries), DE makes me think he still has some work to do. Work that can be done in if has an offseason like 2009,2010 or 2012 or even 2011 free agency.

And I'm meh on Levy, Raiola and Gosder though Raiola and Gosder probably had their best years as Lions this season.

I'm just two years early, after next years 7-9 they'll get another chance to follow that up with more mediocrity. Reboot button hit in 2015. And it was ever thus.

This team retains Houston and Delmas and drafts a good DE(who does what Avril did in 2011) playing next to the beasts of Suh/Fairley and solid safety to pair with Delmas, this team can compete for the division title in 2013. DE and rookie development fixes CB IMO.

Bonus if Mayhew fixes
Right Guard
Speed Back
Burner WR
KR/PR

I guess every other team in the division doesn't improve or gets worse.
